It's good! Small developer, reasonable price for the game. A little visual-novel-y in that I sometimes felt like I couldn't mess up, but seeing the achievements, you definitely can. Sam Walls, the mc, is an enjoyable cowboy vampire to play as, and each of your clients develop organically and greatly over an ingame time of 6 months. Other characters are interesting as well, either in character or design.

Also Andromachos is hot a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Look, I never played a roguelite or roguelike or whatever before this but I love it. I almost failed a weeks worth of classes in college when I first got the game, and then I replayed it again last year, and now I'm replaying it again because I am waiting for Hades II to be complete before I end up dedicating 80 hours of my life to that one.

Sometimes I lost on purpose to progress story. Not because it progresses too slow but because I really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love it. It has something for everyone, and the cadence of the beautiful voice acting is quite comforting and the effort you put into building relationships is totally worth it.

If you're ♥♥♥♥ at games, you'll get better. And even then you have God Mode. And if that isn't enough and you wanna coast straight through it, the files are very, very easy to edit to give yourself an advantage (changing your starting health from 50 to 500, for example).

Now I'm gonna go back and play it more. Again.

I'm gonna ♥♥♥♥ the vampire.'

(in seriousness: I don't feel like I waste any time here, and even the characters I don't like I don't hate. Plus, multiplayer, even if the inability to at least TALK to every character without having them in my own personal party/under my own personal control is straight B U L L S H I T. That said, switching characters between players is pretty simple. Not simple enough to not make me annoyed but simple.

Look, this is supremely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and a little depressing, but it's also funny. I would NOT pay full price, I paid I think 5.99 or 6.99 and it's mostly justifiable since there's like 15 different endings but as you can see by my playtime, even not using a guide it is not difficult to get all of the endings.

That said, the voice acting is kinda funny (and decent if not good, especially the main characters), the scenarios are so incredibly insane I have to give points for creativity, and while you can tell it was a cheaply made game, it's not ugly, just...budget. It was kinda refreshing to play something so unhinged and objectively offensive that also didn't do the worst job at pointing out some issues with society/people or whatever that was also kinda interesting.

Also literally every person in this game is just a horrible ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ person.

Early Access Review
You can spend so many hours in here, or so few - there's a lot of flexibility, it's always easy to pick up again even if you haven't played it for over a year, but there's also plenty to do that keeps you there - tons of mini games, a casino, an arcade, a dark ride and laser tag and bowling and a bunch of other stuff in the Plaza/game hub, and the really cool thing is theres multiple condos available where you can make whatever you want, you can even make your own room off map and set a teleporter to teleport people there. And yes you can build condos with your friends, though you share the dock/items of the one hosting. Hopefully that'll be fixed later, but overall it's a super functional game with active devs and frequent updates and holiday/special events.

It's a good memey time.

Bizzarre does not begin to describe the story of this game. It's good though. And I promise you, you will not expect ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anything that happens, but in a good way. Highly recommend, solid playtime for the price, interesting characters, surprisingly emotionally poignant at times, wonderful visuals, and a lovely, very fitting soundtrack. Also recommend taking your time with it, exploring the nooks and crannies and keep up with the book lady in the town square. This game is best enjoyed without a sense of rushing.

Have fun!

So I finished the game in 10 hours and bought it for 20 bucks. Would I say it's worth it at 2 bucks/hr?

Yeah, absolutely!

There's a lot of replayability, I'd say it gives the game a solid 20-30 hour playtime and for the money and the quality, absolutely worth it. The writing is pretty interesting, quirky, there's only one or two times I can think of where I think the lead writer was trying to meet a deadline but there's a lot of different story threads that appear in tons of different ways.

The characters are all connected and you experience them in various ways since you never actually play the same hitchhiker, but a series of them. Your choices do actually shift the story quite a bit and how previous hitch-hikers interacted with reoccuring characters changes how those characters interact with you to some degree! There's also differences between each hitchhiker that are interesting to figure out - you can use a pay phone to call home, and depending on the teenager home responds a LOT differently (if at all) than others.

The graphics are nice, kind of in a weird place between Life is Strange and Firewatch, but they work and are memorable enough. It is probably where the game is lacking the most, though; with the graphics card requirements it makes me think it might not be all that well optimized but my rig is pretty far past the requirements so I honestly just don't know.

If there's any real reservations to have about the story, it is very political-but that's because it is literally about an election in a dictatorship, tension building closer and closer to this election. It can get pretty heavy handed occasionally but it also makes sense for the world your in-and you can choose how political or not you are as you go along. I don't think it takes away very much, but I was glad to be aware of it before I played, if that makes sense?

Overall, solid game, solid price for it at about 20 bucks considering the replayability (even if you never replay it I wouldn't say it's NOT worth it) with interesting characters that are pretty memorable, especially John and Jerod, and an interesting way of progressing through a story. I would enjoy seeing other games about hitchhikers in a similar sense-where scary things can happen but it's not a horror game.

Is the game worth 60 dollars?

Based on play time...not exactly. Even looking at everything I could it only took me 15-18 hours - the rest of the playtime is from playing the DLC, which I had to pay for separately. You can replay it to try date different characters or fix mistakes, get different endings, etc, but in that realm the game is also pretty limited so it's kind of a neutral point.

Is the game worth 60 dollars based on quality?

Well, yes. It is a high quality game. When I played it was free of glitches, and all the graphics are very pleasing and well polished-especially compared to the other games in the Life is Strange series. Specifically with how much richer the colors are. Besides that the characters are very good and the story, I found, was very, VERY good, particularly in what I guess you would define as payoff for the main part of the plot that I'm not revealing here. They improved a lot of the side characters and gave smaller, better defined arcs within the main story. Basically I think it's one of the best put together games in the series and objectively is a very well put together game. So for that reason, if you want to support the developers or are impatient, I don't think it would be regrettable to purchase the game for full price.

BUT based on the playtime of the main game being so short, I think it comes out to like 10 hours if you're not very thorough (then again if you're not very thorough you probably don't play games like this a lot) I do advise waiting for a sale. A more reasonable price on how much time you get out of the game is probably 40-45 dollars, I think I got it for 30 on a half off sale.

Overall though great game, and having been there since the start I hope for more in the series.

Look, it's been a week or more since I've played this game and it still pops into my head periodically. I've not been allowed to stop thinking about it for very long, and there is a very good reason why.

The Finch family will press itself into your skin and it will not let go.

The game play is not traditional by any sense, it's similar to walking simulators except you feel like your actions have an origin and a purpose and a meaning. You have to participate in what happens to the members of the Finch family. You have to look around, and examine, and find your way from one piece of the story to another. You're delivered each piece of story in a different way, and you find hints of life everywhere you go, in itty-bitty details. There are small puzzle pieces you'll be invited to connect as you go through and you'll be happy to do it. If you are one of those people that likes looking at all the small details in a game-the titles of books, the stains on the wall, the personal possessions on a desk and how everyone writes their letters-then you will doubly enjoy this game.

But even if you aren't one of those people, I still one-hundred percent recommend it on story alone. Just the base story, not even how the story is delivered, but the core thing itself. What would be written on paper with no visuals or sound effects. Though I believe the developers chose the best possible format they could have to deliver it as a game. Everything is enhanced by visuals, mini-games and exploration. Based on all the factors, I do UNDERSTAND the full $20 price tag. I mean, you spend 20 bucks on a meal that's finished long before this game and can't exactly be re-eaten. I think it's understandable, fair based on quality. But I personally suggest getting it when it goes on its 12.99/9.99 or lower sale simply because it is so short.

But seriously. I hope anyone that is considering the game and happens to read this goes ahead and gets it. It is worth the time and money. It WILL NOT leave you as a story.

Everyone should find out what remains of Edith Finch.
