Let me start off by saying that this recommendation comes based on preference of game style. High Hell is a platforming heavy shooter with really stylized graphics, simple but satisfying gameplay, and really trippy levels that get you to think for a bit after the conclusion before you shrug and stop caring.

To explain in a bit more detail why I put NO to the recommended: The game is short. I beat it in a 1 hour 6 minutes. the 20 single player stages are all that's there and each of the game's 4 bosses are all stages by themselves. Each stage takes anywhere from 5 seconds to beat if you're good to 2-3 minutes, maybe longer depending on if you're scrounging for those devil dolls. Stages are comprised of buildings you have to smash through and they aren't very expansive save for the few vertical levels that are outstanding.

Because of this short nature each stage feels both unique but also very repetitive. Some designs, like one level's tower of crates that hide enemies and can be used for tons of path possibilites, are only used once, while the general 2-3 story set of rooftops and random small rooms is used for the majority of stages.

In addition, game gets repetitive. Granted, the game ends before the monotony can set in, but it definately is there. You have 5 buttons: Shoot, interact/kick, crouch, zoom, and jump. You only use 3 of those buttons most of the time. Every stage. Interactives are ALWAYS just a static object you either destroy or take. Never any unique switches, mechanics, or special paramiters. With how trippy the visuals can get, the game definately needed something spicy to stick in your head past the last boss, and it just lacks it.

Collectibles are a joke, too. In each stage there's a little devil doll you can find. Some are hidden really well, some are obvious. Besides that their's the objective to grab/destroy/kill and stacks of money to burn. However, the game doesn't really have stuff you can interact with in every room, their hidden or generally not built into the flow of rooms. Because of this a lot of rooms are just a few enemies you mow down and kick down the next door. Some more interactivity would've been appreciated.

Speaking of enemies, there aren't many, but the game's short length makes it so they don't generally get too stale. However, they do use a lot of the enemies very sparingly. The dogs, turrets, and manager enemies could've been used more often so it wasn't just heavy enemies and standard grunts everywhere.

Bosses are also a joke. Aside from one, they're all puzzle bosses and none of them are very hard. The exceptions are Beelzebot and the Boss. Beelzebot isn't THAT difficult but there's an awkwardness to hitting his weakness that makes fighting him a crapshoot sometimes. The Boss is only difficult due to the level layout. That killed me a bunch of times while the Boss himself hasn't killed me once.

Game needed an extra 5 levels and some more interactives. They had laser gates that they used only like twice in the whole game. Maybe add moving platforms, or a level almost entirely based around platforming, or something more than what's here.

For the price of $8.99, the game IS worth it while they're offering Heavy Bullets as a free bonus. That game is great, but as is, unless you're a fan of the style and are fine with a speedrun focused game that doesn't have anything to really make it standout then go for it.
