It was like watching a very beautifully made film about some characters I didn't like, and occasionally pressing left-shift while I listened to them talk.
Between the numerous long cutscenes the only significant bits of interaction it let me do were to shoot some wolves, hunt some deer, take part in a gunfight, walk along a train, and repair a wagon simply by pressing E when it told me to, none of which was exciting in the slightest. I was looking for something like Kingdom Come: Deliverance and didn't find it here.

WTF? Was this really written by the same people who produced the incredible base game and the other DLC? I've only played the Johanka quests so far and it's been like watching a beloved friend succumb to a horrible illness. Or the first Star Wars prequel. The dialogue is excessively long and puerile. I really don't want to spend my time telling Johanka what a wonderful speech she gave and how she must really have been called on by the Virgin Mary, and I really doubt that anyone who enjoyed the main game would want to do so either. The final straw was having to send heroic Henry on a dreadful pilgrimage on foot from Sasau to Uzhitz, pathetically self-flagellating at every shrine on the way. I honestly felt sorry for the actor for having to recite such drivel and I only made it as far as the outskirts of Sasau before giving up and riding to Skalitz to look for some trouble.
Only play this if your addiction to KCD is having a negative impact on your life and you want to break it.

I forced myself to try this again after 6 months just to complete the achievements, and the script for the Johanka quests was just as dire and far-removed from the sparkling script of the base game as I remember. When he's not sucking up to the annoying Johanka, Henry briefly talks to a boulder.
There are some very good ideas in some of the quests but the execution is poor and I was just glad when it was all over.

The Theresa quests were if anything even more dull, though the script is better and it is interesting to see a bit more of Skalitz (unfortunately not Rovna) before it was wrecked. There was one genuinely good bit, after the Cumans have invaded. Sadly you have to go through a lot of tedious walking around from one place to another and back again to get that far, and it's very nearly worth the pain.

The dog companion is very well done, and you don't have to do any of the ghastly quests in order to get that, so if you want some help with hunting it might be worth buying this if it's on offer.

I liked the music to the game, but I didn't realise just how brilliantly it conveys the atmosphere until I listened to it on its own.
This is perfect for those times when life (working, eating, travelling, whatever) gets in the way of playing KCD. With this music I can be roaming the Bohemian countryside in my head without having to touch the controls.

Not only is KCD a brilliant game, it's really funny too. Make sure you do the full quest with the charlatan - don't just pay him for the love potion. He's absolutely hilarious.

For a long time I've wanted to live in the Middle Ages without the risk of personally dying of a horrible disease or being beaten up by bandits, and, thanks to this game, now I can.

You start out as a likeable but useless blacksmith's son, watch your family get murdered, and try to survive using combat, horse-riding, lock-picking, trading and other skills, all of which you are terrible at.
Slowly, slowly you improve but this takes HOURS. Very enjoyable and engrossing hours, though.

The atmosphere and realism are incredible. I could spend ages riding around 15th century Bohemia watching the sun come up and go down, and that's just as well because there's a lot of that in this game. Be prepared to take your time and just enjoy it, a bit like watching slow TV. And live with the fact that you'll be useless at combat for a very long time.

I did very nearly ask for a refund after failing SO many times at riding a horse out of Skalitz. It really wasn't well explained, but Youtube came to the rescue, and has done so a couple more times but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this game. It very much deserves whatever awards it wins, despite the bugs and slightly awkward controls. Nothing in life has any business being perfect.

I've now finished the story (took me around 150 hours, every one of which was truly enjoyable). I didn't really master the combat properly and got by with my mace and lots of frantic clicking, but the game is so varied it can be completed without doing all that much fighting, but I'll play it through again and see if I can get better and complete all of the achievements.
The game is a real masterpiece: the historical accuracy (I presume, I wasn't there), the scenery, the music, the quests, the storyline, the script, the acting, the various skills like lockpicking and archery, EVERYTHING. If it was one tenth as good it would have been worth the money. I just hope I'll be able to find something as good to follow it.

Like all of the HOTK games, it's basically the same but a little bit different. A nice story, and good to see that cooking has been resurrected from my favourite HOTK3. I'd have like to have seen the hunting/fighting/cooking progression from that game too, but you can't have everything. It was interesting to be a princess for a while, though I prefer being a lowly adventurer.
The game is a bit short, but I think it's longer than Lost Tales 1. It was quite linear in that there wasn't all that much choice in the order that you complete the quests, and they were all quite simple, BUT it's lovely to escape into a fairytale world again and click around for a few hours, so I was quite happy and I'm ready for the next in the series.

Always a good sign when the developers release a demo. I tried it and liked it so much I bought the game straightaway without waiting for a discount and I wasn't disappointed.

It feels very realistic and, as another reviewer said, it really seems to capture the desperation of trying to survive a siege.

The tutorial is very good at teaching the mechanics, but it doesn't guide you to the right strategy to win: you have to work that out for yourself.

The balance between the exhilaration of the scavenging phase (guiding a character around a city at night, dodging guards and picking up whatever can be useful) and the daytime building phase in the bleak remnants of the stronghold is excellent. Some say that the game doesn't have much replayability but I absolutely love it and found all of the different variants very enjoyable, even though they are much the same.

Following the European siege scenario there's a desert-based scenario. Whilst the graphics are excellent, this scenario doesn't resonate with me the same way as the main game does. It doesn't have the tension of the night-time scavenging, or the bleakness, and there are very few guards to dodge, and I've gone back to replay the original scenario rather than finish this.

Will probably be very good when it's finished, but at the moment it's just too annoying. My settlers keep falling unconscious, and even when I order another settler to carry them to bed they immediately get up and fall unconscious again, even if they're scheduled to sleep. Some of the idiots will sleep standing up even when there are nice comfortable beds available. The gameplay is very similar to the awesome Founder's Fortune, but unfortunately with all of the charm and most of the fun removed. I'll happily give it another try when it's been improved but for now I don't think I can put myself through any more of it.

Definitely fun. There are a few bugs, which you'd expect in Early Access, but nothing that prevents completing an enjoyable game. A good concept, taking elements from Northgard (regions, most building types), Kingdoms and Castles (graphical style) and Stronghold (castle defence), but with building by day and attacks by night and resurrection of fallen soldiers! If the bugs are fixed (archers remaining suspended in mid-air after their tower has collapsed is the most notable) and the developers add a fast-forward button (it's sometimes a bit tedious waiting for the day to pass, or the last few straggling attackers to get themselves killed) then this will give many hours of enjoyment. But it'll do that as it is - it's more polished than a lot of games in Early Access.

Probably the most addictive game I've ever played. Basically a cross between Kingdoms&Castles and Dawn of Man but, if anything, even more engaging. The characters have real personalities, the way the buildings are constructed is great, the technology tree is great, the range of improvements is great, everything is great. Why am I writing this when I could be playing?
