Design Review:
Ender Lilies is a beautiful game in more ways than one. Visual designs for characters fit the theme very well against the backdrop of a gloomy setting and story. One of the first things you will notice is that this game's soundtrack is phenomenal. The soundtrack plays into the theme of the game adding much to the emotional story that accompanies it. This along with the notes found throughout the game fleshes out the story in a way the leaves you to discover and piece together the lore behind the world.

As for more of the gameplay aspects the game pays homage to the classic Metroidvania tropes of old by giving the player areas that wrap around and interweave with one another. You will be revisiting areas once you have new abilities in order to open locked pathways or find hidden treasures. There are many of those and you will want to find these as they often are spent to upgrade spirits (abilities) or find more of said spirits. You can also find relics which give you passive bonuses for the most part. If I had to give this game a con is that the optional bosses that you come across in the game are often just a more powerful version of the normal type enemies with little or no difference in mechanics.

Boss design for the story-centric encounters do feel good with almost all of them coming with 3 phase fights with more mechanics in each phase. Though not extremely difficult the game may still give you a fair challenge. As for the combat of your character I did find it to become tedious in some aspects where upgrading your abilities will only increase damage or lower cooldowns which didn't really make the abilities feel better to press in the long run. The variety of abilities are there where you can mix and match combinations to find a set up that fits your playstyle but again each individual skill can be rather boring to press at times.

Level design is good with a vast variety of areas with different platforming challenges and enough hints of secret areas to explore more and more to the point where I wanted to 100% every area. Personally this is good design as it keeps the player engaged and wanted to explore more however the rewards were lacklustre at times and I found myself just trying to tick the area as completed.

In summary:
A well designed Metroidvania well worth the price I paid. Play if you like others within the genre. This is definitely a gem. Where the combat can lack in places the music, story and general atmosphere make it all worth it.
Note: The game has multiple endings which does require you to do quite a bit of exploration to achieve all of them but they are worth seeing for the sake of the story.
