Don't buy into the negativity that you are seeing for this game. There are a few criticisms about the core experience, but none that you wouldn't find in other Bethesda titles.

It has made huge strides since it's launch, I've played it almost nonstop since the release came out with almost no bugs. This is the most stable I've seen any Bethesda game, with this update I haven't crashed once. I also haven't had this much fun in a very long time. You have so many pathways to play your character now, as the character building with perks and gear can really help you define your character.

Do you want to be a stealth archer like in Skyrim? Yep! You can do that now. This is what I am doing and I absolutely love it.

Do you want to be a barbarian that can run across a field with a battle axe? Oh you bet you can do that.

There are guns too, but this is Fallout do something cool! The possibilities are endless.

I've had some unforgettable encounters with enemies and players alike. Chasing down wanted players or taking over a contested workshop is heart pumping. Fighting multiple huge enemies with the entire server in a nuke zone is incredible. The combat I feel is some of the best that Bethesda has done and they can only improve from this point!

This game also has an incredible story, and any Fallout lore fan needs to play through it at least once. Trust me, the vanilla main Quest is one of the best in the entire series if you take the time to actually listen and read the lore as it is presented to you. The Wastelanders addition is also on par with older Fallout games and is far superior to Fallout 4 in that regard.

I can't recommend this game enough, with regular updates this game is constantly changing for the better. Bethesda is listening and you can honestly tell. If you enjoyed any Fallout title, you should at the minimum give this a play through and come to your own conclusions about the game. I was an unbeliever at first, but this game has one of the greatest communities and it is truly a pleasure to share a world with these people. However, the world is big enough where it is common to not even run into other players during your travels if you are concerned about that.

I also want to talk about two of the biggest criticisms I see why people aren't giving this game a shot.

Now some people are saying that the private servers should be free or the atomic shop shouldn't exist. I've played this game on the Bethesda launcher before Wastelanders and I can tell you both of those features are totally optional and honestly do not make the game any easier or pay to win.

With private servers (Fallout 1st), it honestly makes the game harder if you decide to play by yourself. This game does require a community to accomplish the really cool things and it is totally awesome when everyone comes together. In addition, the only true benefit of the Fallout 1st is the stash space, but honestly I played for hundreds of hours so far without it and I've never seen the need. You just have to be smart with your inventory. You don't need to store hundreds of bone or cloth. Seriously, don't hoard!

I will say that Fallout 1st is great only for people with a large group of friends who just want to play on a server together without random players.

With the atomic shop, sure you can spend real money. HOWEVER, you could also just play the game and earn those same points to unlock some cool skins. They constantly cycle so it's not a big deal if it goes away. Everything comes back.

Seriously, if you don't like a feature you don't need to use it. It makes 0 impact on your game. If you enjoyed any Fallout, this is a game you should totally try.
