In practice, though, you sort of can't be mad at Granblue Fantas. It's built around a layered combat system that seems impenetrable if you don't take some time to understand it. But really, Granblue Fantasy is just a game so committed to the rule of cool that the entire setting is physically impossible, and every battle is a disorientating Panic! At The Firework Factory that flirts with being a photosensitivity nightmare. I'm not selling it as such, but it's actually charming.

You probably make a decent fist of the first few hours of Relink without understanding anything. It'll just take you a lot longer to finish, though there are also accessibility and assist options to automate some or all of the more complicated aspects of the combat. There are some larger problems with a couple of the fundamentals, in any case.

Granblue Fantasy has absolutely no pretensions about it, isn't saying anything, and is quite dedicated to it's fantasy. Good guys are good, bad guys are bad, and a hot witch who explodes roses everywhere in battle is cool. So are attacks the size of a planet, and monsters with hands on strings flying everywhere, and pirate captains who are also dudes with big cow horns. Unless all of that doesn't sound at all cool to you in which case, best avoid this game, if I were you.

In the beginning of a wipe you will feel special, and loved due to the nostalgic gameplay. This stops when you get chased all the way to the place you are running to, you are getting chased because you were spotted picking up 1 industrial hemp plant. You get away from the group chasing you, and you are able to build a wooden starter base. The next thing you know is that when you went for a quick toilet break, the enemy is ‘doorcamping’ your base, since they don't like where you build your base. They're doorcamping either with spears, or an eoka. This means you are held captive in your own base, which results into not being able to get any further progress. Eventually you open the door, and you die. Currently the enemy is using handmade shells to destroy your beloved wooden door, which actually has sentimental value to yourself. You try to respawn in your bag, which you crafted with the 30 cloth you gained from a couple hemp plants. But unfortunately, you are unable to respawn since your bag has been destroyed, meaning the enemy is full deep in your beloved 2 x 1, and has full control of it. Subsequently you respawn at the beach getting eaten by a boar, next to the amazing lighthouse which is controlled by a naked zerg with spears. To sum this all up, this game is amazing. Try it. Go for it.

if you buy this, get the ultimate edition, the dlc cars are more refined than the original cars included with the game, most of the original cars feel like they share different physics. I'm not really that into hardcore sim-racing so much as I am a relaxing, immersive driving experience. Yes, driving with a pad or heaven forbid, a keyboard, is demonstrably more difficult than using a wheel. It is simply impossible to have the type of precision and range of motion you can get with a wheel replicated on a gamepad's analog sticks, or dpad. This game's physics/tire modeling are really realistic, which means those little nuances that other games let you not have to worry about, are really important here, thus a pad/keyboard user will always be at a disadvantage compared to wheel users, but that's beyond obvious. Driving skill/knowledge will trump this however, and learning the unique characteristics of the various vehicles is fun and rewarding.
