I'll be honest...

I didn't expect much coming into this game due to Bloober team's lack of a games library as well as knowing the previous games they've developed.
however, I am pleasantly surprised to say this game not only blew away my expectations but excelled.
This game stays mostly true to the source material and it shows front and center with a few minor changes to the story and how the game is played such as the modernization to 3rd person movement as well as a simplistic yet effect combat system (now with dodging!).
I've been a big fan of the silent games for decades now and was cautiously hopeful that one developer could see the potential in revitalizing the franchise and they did just that.
the atmosphere throughout the game is near perfect, encapsulating the feeling of personal dread as well as the fact that you shouldn't be here.
i'm also glad they've kept the fog here and enhanced the detail as thick as it was with some minor changes such as being able to see taller buildings as well as trees in the distance as it's predecessor was unable to do this due to rendering limitations.
the only minor complaints i have for this game so far is that while the soundtrack is for the most part good it does have some room for improvement. for example there are times you will wander throughout the foggy town of silent hill near the beginning and the same rather loud audio will occasionally come in when it is not necessary. this is a personal opinion, but i would rather have the background ambiance be more subtle here with minor dynamics as you wander. you will notice this again in other indoor areas as well. the ambiance as you play should be rather quiet or none at all at times to really capture the uneasy-ness and tension.

the combat is simple yet effective, either melee, dodge, or shoot. that's all there is to it. while dodging is nice, it could still use room for improvement as the dodge distance isn't all that great and very easy to still get hit.

The game also pretty smooth for me as I'm getting about 80ish fps on the highest settings +dlss w/o raytracing on my 4070. i haven't really encountered any stuttering issues throughout the game, however I would like to note that during the cutscenes the game will auto lock to 30fps until the scene finishes. I don't know why this is set so low... but netherless this is only a minor complaint.

the voice acting is also pretty good in this game and the facial expressions match the voice acting for the most part with exception to one scene in particular regarding a rather depressed lady (trying not to spoil so we will leave it at that) as well as a couple of other scenes that lose their sense of serious due to incorrect facial animations.

so... is it worth the 70USD price tag???

for my first run it took me about 30ish hours to complete on hard combat and hard riddle difficulty and that is partly due to me dying over and over again. There is a new game+ option here that you will need to play if you want to explore any of the extra endings in this game, so the replay value is there.

However, as of right now I simply cant justify the high price markup for something of a niche title like this.
as much as i want to see the success of this game be well known so we can get new entries of the SH series as well as possible remakes (looking at you silent hill 3 and 4...) this game should be be around 40-50USD instead.

This game gives me hope that Konami will see the success of this and alas revitalize my hope for the continuation of the series.

Keep up the great work!

PS: in my personal opinion turn off the red indicator for low health as well as turning off icons for the QTEs this added to my immersion once these were set plus all the QTEs use the same keybind/controller bind anyways. you can tell james health state based on his stature as well as an audible heartbeart when he is one hit from dying (or just check his health the classic SH way, by going to the menu and you will see a different background based on his health state at the time.)

Now first things first...

This game is not from the same devs as undertale. although it does seem to appear that it was inspired by undertale... the only similarities is it's art style. Other than that it is no where near similar to undertale in terms of actual gameplay.

--How I see it is this... imagine guitar hero except you are moving a character around to dodge and reflect the notes instead. Your character is not in sync with the song, only the enemy shooting the "notes" out is in rhythm with the tune.

--I will leave a disclaimer here for people with epilepsy. This game has a tone of flashing lights and goes hard on that. luckily there is an option to tone this down for people with hypersensitivity issues. This game is intentional on that note to make it trippy and can be very disorienting for some.

--each character you fight is a separate boss with their own unique song attached... there are no multiples of generic enemies to fight in this game. If you are playing on harder difficulties, let this be known. this game can get really hard at times depending on the boss you fight. there will be a few bosses that will make you want to pull your hair out and break your keyboard across your desk. But that makes it all the more satisfying when you do beat those bosses. luckily, none of them use cheap/unfair tactics here.

--there is plenty of gameplay here. It will take you around 4-6 hours just to be at around the halfway point in the game. For the main ending... it can take you around 12-14 hours depending on how good you are at dodging and reflecting notes.
for me as a completionist i wanted to achieve all the endings.

--there are three endings in this game that i am aware of. depending on the ending you wish to play after you hit the halfway point it can take you anywhere between 20 minutes to 6-7 hours depending on the ending you wish to seek.

--every character seems to have their own quirks and are interesting here. for me this story was pretty fleshed out. I had no pacing issues with except with the desert level... I personally did not like the length you had to run just to get to the end. it reminded me of another game just for a second while running *cough desert bus cough*.

--the only thing I didn't really like is when the notes start moving around like a wave. this can be very disorienting for some players.

overall I will give this game a 9/10. It is an interesting approach to rhythm games and the bosses are good enough to make you anticipate the next one. There isn't really anything like this out there that I am aware of. The soundtrack I do believe is near perfection here. there were only a couple songs from bosses i did not like here such as the worm.

this game is reminds me of greenlight. you know that dark and depressing time when asset flips were the hot thing. poor graphics, my framerate couldn't even reach 30fps, and very miminal gameplay. Even if you are playing this game for the memes it really isn't worth your time. unless you want to consider collecting the slenderman style ehem "meme pages" and kill the very poorly done boss fight (if you can even call that) engaging gameplay than be my guest. you swap between two guns in the game. ive had various glitches in the game just in the first few minutes of playing. the only thing i found funny is a glitch where you walk up to one of the closed church doors and if you aim your gun down sight your upper torso clips off your body and spazzes out. there are various assets in this game you can just walk through (the electrical box next to the church for example). the "memes" are very outdated and poorly done at that. and the best part... the creator didn't even put in an endgame after you kill the boss. so you are just running around aimlessly until you get killed (I found this pretty hard to accomplish because the enemies have the health relating to a level one boar or any other animal in an rpg). at least put more effort into cheap games like this so the player could have maybe at least a little more to get engaged with. overall don't buy this. there are better meme related games out there if you are looking for meme games specifically.

this game just scared the living $h!T out of me yet it is so great. it draws you in for all of dem nasty jumpscares that they converted from the second fnaf game and placed it into the third with improved graphics and more of a 3d affect (except for phantom balloon boy's scare). Scott also left some easter eggs for us to find while also bring back an old one (honking freddy's nose). There are a lot of mystery's scott left in the game that he left everyone to decifer and solve for themselves like such as why does the purple guy kill the animatronics and who is the purple guy (still been trying to figure that out since fnaf 2). I highly recommend anyone who loved the previous fnafs or if you just have a thirst for getting scared nearly to death (if you haven't died yet) and having your body tremble trying to take that mouse and keep clicking TO BUY THIS GAME!!!!
