Stutters worse than Stutter Space Remake, yet somehow no word from neither bloober nor Konami.
Doesn't bode well for a fix for this technical mess.
The saddest part is that the game is great, I'd argue on par with the likes of the resident evil remakes. None of that matters however when in a horror game - which are highly dependent on player immersion - you get taken out of said immersion every 5-10 seconds just walking around. Any chance for a creepy atmosphere is therefore completely out the window, since in those 5-10 second intervals you're reminded that you're playing a video game and it's highly distracting.
Sadly when it comes to stutters in a game, not even variable refresh rate can save you like in the days of yore when all we had to deal with was frame-rates tanking due to gpu load.
Tried numerous "fixes" and mods, but to no avail.

Tldr; The current state of the game is sadly a highly compromised experience that likely will never be addressed.

Constant stutter during transitions and any loading of dialog and/or interactions.
Then hit a glitch/bug/leak/whatever it may have been which caused the game to lock below 60fps (50% gpu utilization) and introduced perma stutter. Tried to back out to main menu, game locked up, had to use steam to force stop, got a prompt to fill out crash report, told sony they suck.

Refunded.

Konami is an actual trash heap of a company. 1 year on and they finally released an update adressing these games running at 720p max. Seems they forgot that 1080p still isn't the ceiling for modern displays. Such an embarrassment to even have to say this, but I've never played a remaster, or any game released in the past 10 years for that matter, that didn't allow to run at 4k. Why arbitrarily limit resolution to 720p for a year, and then slap people with the consolation prize of 1080p. Complete insanity.

Luckily there's been a 4k mod since day one, made by a hobbyist, FOR FREE. So it is playable at 4k with said mod, but this review is for the official unedited release, and for that they deserve 0 praise.

So far not a great start.

There are WAY fewer zombies on screen in every single area than in the original, which is insane for a "remaster". Yes, everything is as maxed as it can get.

UPDATE: I've made it into the tunnels, and while down there you may as well describe the game as broken. The loading in of zombies cannot keep up (it's installed on a 990 btw), sometimes they spawn in behind you after you've already "passed" them. It's a mess, and so is the frame rate down there. Stutters like crazy, to the point where it's disorienting when coupled with the problem above.

Dlss is finally officially supported in a capcom game (including frame gen), but there's no sharpening slider. If that is the sort of thing you care about (like I do), you sadly have to revert to fsr (doesn't offer frame gen here), which of course looks way worse but at least it has said sharpening slider. None of this would matter if reshade worked in this game, but alas it currently crashes the game, and I've tried many different iterations of it.

Other than that the voice acting seems somewhat worse, but I don't think it's as bad as some people claim.

The og is still great!

Absolutely amazing. It's everything and more that I hoped for!

Runs great, actually better than the previous steam release of the original, and even has ray tracing. The new camera lets you zoom in super close, and the detail for an rts is mindblowing.

And zero issues, a functional game -- ahead of release no less -- in this day and age?!

Great game, but horribly broken on pc. Also has missing dlc. I get that exclusivity deals exist, back then much more than they do now in fact, but there's no need to hold them hostage any longer.

One of Sony's best games is finally here.

It has inspired many, many other publishers to follow suit and make more games based in and around japan, specifically feudal japan and its rich history. Interest is high on both sides of course, and we finally get to experience the game that started the trend, and thus far it also happens to be the best one.

Port is great with one caveat. There is a small glitch during cutscenes stemming from the letterboxing. It's either due to dlss, frame gen, or just a general glitch, but it happens during most cutscenes and manifests as black fuzzy lines at the top and bottom of the screen. Runs great also, and features both forms of frame gen in case performance doesn't quite meet your desires.

Highly recommended, and I hope they can sort out the aforementioned glitch.

Great so far, and way better than the first. Also it looks unbelievably good, most of the time. Runs great as well.
