Its not letting me comment on the forum i saw your question for some reason, but to answer your question, you don't need to have teammates to play and you can avoid other people fairly easily. You play in pvp servers all the time. It can actually be better to do the story quests solo due you being able to take your own pace with it. I would recommend the game if you like pirate stuff and puzzles. :)
