Amazing game, might be my new all-time favorite.
It's MOBA air hockey, nothing more really needs to be said.
In case you need more convincing; the gameplay is intuitive, strategic and fast-paced, and the controls feel very good.
The characters are some of the best I've ever seen, especially design-wise. They all have very different movesets too, which is fun to mix and match with or experiment with new playstyles. I want to know more about each and every one of them, both on and off the pitch.
Finally, the devs are undoubtedly the greatest of any game ever created. Hilarious choice of emotes, great implementation of community feedback, amazing communication, the works.

Long story short: This game and its community are more than worth your time!

About time I reviewed this game.

Long story short; it's an absolute blast! This is the game that first got me interested in One Piece, and even as a complete newcomer to the franchise it was awesome. The game feels great to play (especially with a controller). There's enough mechanical depth here to really sink your teeth into, and once you master it you feel like an unstoppable badass, which is ultimate what all Musou games strive to achieve. This all goes hand-in-hand with one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard in a video game. These tracks are bangers through and through.

The characters are varied and feel very different from one another, each having their own unique combos, traits, special moves, mechanics, and so forth. They ooze charm and style, and getting each of them levelled up is a worthwile investment and a fun journey. The story mode is there, but that's about all it is. It has some cool animated cutscenes, and tells the story from the very beginning up to and (kind of) including the Dressrosa Arc. It doesn't do a great job of summarizing the story for newcomers like I was, but it has all the iconic moments from the manga and will definitely give you an idea of the world and characters.

If you're remotely interested in One Piece or Warriors games, definitely give it a shot. If you like both, what the hell are you waiting for?!

This may be overdue, but after 600+ hours, might as well share my opinion.
So, short answer; Brawlhalla is awesome!
Long answer; it's awesome, but there are a lot of problems lying underneath.
Like many of you probably, I started playing Brawlhalla after already having played a fair share (1,500+ hours) of Smash Brothers.
This has made it so that I could get accustomed to Brawlhalla's gameplay more easily. It's moderately simple to pick up, but insanely difficult to master. It may not seem like it from the outside, but getting gud is a serious investment.
That's both a flaw and a strength. Learning new techniques, strings, combos and playstyles is an incredible feeling, and with the constant addition of new characters, weapons, and gameplay tweaks, you can keep on learning. There are many things I absolutely love about Brawl. For instance; characters share weapons and hurtboxes. This makes it so that learning one weapon allows you to play a myriad of characters, and it's easy to switch from one character to another. I also really love how you can unlock alternate colours and 'stances', giving you a real feeling of progressing with your favorite characters. The gameplay is also very addicting, pulling off a cool string or getting a sick gimp is honestly one of the most rewarding things ever, and the floaty mechanics and loose combo system allow for crazy clips. On the flip side, the gameplay causes problems too. Mainly the dodge is incredibly overpowered, which allows for parry defensive dodge-heavy playstyles to work out really well, and makes combos incredibly hard to pull off. Some playstyles (and some weapons entirely) are just not fun to play against and very hard to counter. Although it's an expensive hobby, I love skins. And gee golly, Brawlhalla has incredible skins. The artwork in general is great! On characters, animations, backgrounds, everything. It's also very nice to know that nothing is P2W. You can get everything that's not a cosmetic just by playing the game. This review isn't exactly coherent, but the last thing I find worth mentioning is the community. When you get to know the members, it's amazing. The players I've met are funny, charismatic, and all in all just tons of fun to hang out with. However, random players online tend to be... not so great. BM is, unfortunately, very common. It ties in well with those frustrating un-fun playstyles I mentioned earlier. Brawlhalla can be one of the most frustrating games to play, ESPECIALLY in Ranked, which is a gamemode that's very tough to climb in, by the way. (For you experienced players, I'm a low plat myself, but I know plenty of people with my playtime, even double my playtime, still stuck in gold). Playing Brawlhalla is definitely not for everybody, and I'm not sure it's worth it as just a "casual party fighting game". You really need to invest time and effort to learn the ins and outs if you truly want to enjoy it. Sadly, on the way to learning, you will encounter many infuriating problems. Personally though, I'd give it a shot. See how you feel after 50-ish hours. If you can stick it out for that long, it's probably for you, and you'll be hooked like many of us are ;)
