I want to start off by saying the game is really good all the way through act 3 cruel. There are questionable decisions on your way there but its solid... HOWEVER, this game is not designed at all to be played with other people. As someone who enjoys almost exclusively playing with others the design choices in this game make it extremely difficult.

Here are a few examples that stood out to me and the character I played with mostly 1 other friend:

You can only have 1 curse on an enemy - II am an frost sorceress and friend is a fire witch. I am literally trolling or being trolled if i apply hypothermia or they apply flammability (roughly at least 40% damage lost ???). Just allow 1 curse per person or something to that effect?

An ability called Frost wall - Super good ability solo but in multiplayer it is straight up just trolling others if you don't destroy them within a few frames of them being up. Anyone with minion builds for the most part cant damage and i don't even want to know how melees feel unable to reach the enemy because a walls in the way.

Maps - Why cant you revive? I get the argument death needs to be punished, punish it with a time limit? make deaths take time? All that happens is XYZ person dies and leaves group because there is no incentive to wait for the rest of the group.

Okay beyond just a few examples above I also need to talk about earning ascendancy points and I understand a lot of people are beating a dead horse here but the two ways of getting ascendancy points are just terrible.

So lets talk about it:

Temple of chaos - getting ascendancy points here is fine but going through multiple floors only to get one shot by a mechanic you never saw cause you fought boss 1 and not boss 2 (which you memorized cause you got it the last 2 times you tried) is stupid. There needs to be some safe guard on progress for you to learn without needing to redo 15 minutes of garbage.

Trial of Sekhemas - I really enjoyed the first visit to this area I thought it was great tbh I haven't tried the second version but I have seen enough complaints from melee characters to understand that the honor system needs a tweak, or at least it being tied to the ascendancy points need to be tweaked. I think its okay if there's certain content some classes thrive at (so long as it doesn't lock out op or essential farms). But people want that first clear and tying points behind something that is much easier for ranged characters is bad, maybe void loot if you run out of honor but allow that first clear to get your ascendancy?

Another thing - whats up with the venom quest being permanent buffs? Do they plan on changing that? The other buffs that have options let you change at will so its only assumed that choice is also, if its meant to be that way there needs to be a larger warning.

I wont talk to much about performance read all the other reviews but it is laggy asf in multiplayer, which takes me to my final point:

This game having the multiplayer tag is really dishonest. With how unincentivized it is with the mechanics in the game, especially at end game its kinda sad as a person who really enjoys playing with friends. This is just a few of the issues I noticed and I really hope they tweak some of them as like I said this game is really good outside some frustrating design choices.

tldr: multiplayer bad, ascendancy point acquisition bad, abilities in multiplayer bad, game act 1-3 normal and cruel good for most part, performance bad (mostly in multiplayer).

Such a great game 100% worth it. The game is complex and has a lot of interesting mechanics to learn but that's what makes it great, when you hit those "I get it now" moments.

Consistently within top 10 on Steam charts for most played game on Steam but doesn't feel like it at all. This game generally beats out games like Siege or DBD for player counts and yet you cant even play on official servers without bots instantly killing you out of spawn. Valve has horribly neglected this title for way to long for the player base it has and its sad. Hopefully they give it the love and attention it deserves soon.

Stockholm Syndrome 2

For real though Blizzard has driven this game as with most of its titles to the ground. With the release of Overwatch 2 the priority was very clearly never what they advertised with PVE being a major incentive for adding the 2 in the first place. Shops and micro transactions clearly came out on top.

The game is very close to being an enjoyable experience but Blizzard seems to have lost all direction on how to get it there.

But oh well there's always next season right :) -Blizz probably
