Monster w/ an Attitude

Welcome. Feel free to take a quick glance at these key points below concerning me in relation to gaming & some related topics:

• Allergic to low-poly and pixel graphics in modern releases

• Don't particularly care for open world survival craft, most games with PvP combat (incl. fighting games), porn-type stuff, strategy & city/base builders, life sims, dating sims, racing games (basically, simulators in general), nostalgia-based genres like tower defense & shoot 'em ups, and games that are mostly derivative of other games. In all the above cases, I might make an exception if a given title is a highly unusual take on the category, and/or it has outstanding creative direction

• Even if one or two of my favourite titles happen to be pre-invasion Russian, that's not an indicator of my political position, which is staunchly anti-tsarist (certainly anti-Putin), and I am proud to be Ukrainian

• As someone who's quite comfortably a cishet Caucasian male, am at the same time methodically pro-LGBT and against white privilege, though also have problems with political correctness and cancel culture, and mixed thoughts on DEI as a virtue (as a conservative conspiracy theory it's quite laughable for sure)

• Mostly on a gaming break – at least until OD or Bloodborne are out on PC

• The original Witcher game is basically pretty bad, and not because it's too old now. Maybe the 2nd and/or 3rd are better in some ways (haven't a clue), but I fail to see why I should have any real interest in trying them

• Personal favourite figures in the gaming world would include Poki, Dybowski, Stephanie Sterling, Yahtzee on his good days and, somewhat banally, Kojima

I'm already giving this a positive review, so it'll only be fair if I focus more on the downsides. Say what you want about the mediocre dialogue and writing here, but this game simply lacks a central theme/idea/philosophy to complement the - admittedly, reasonably impressive - visuals. More minor problems are present as well, such as plot dialogue stopping abruptly because of a scripted fight erupting too early, side quests with timers on them enabling completely needless FOMO whenever you're in an area that automatically gives you them (which is virtually all the areas in the game), characters who repeat their ridiculously annoying greeting line to you ad nauseam (every 6 seconds or so) even if you're standing twenty meters above them on a roof, announcement sound effects for special enemies repeating when you pass through their location even though the enemy is already dead - but all this is really beside the point, as there is simply something more integral lacking here. I also really wish they didn't call it Stalker: the connection to the Tarkovsky masterpiece clearly does not serve this as a video game to any serious extent.
There's legitimately fun and even semi-unique gameplay in this thing, but as mentioned above, that sometimes doesn't feel like enough due to the technical problems preventing you from being content with just the gameplay side of it, as well as the lack of answers to questions like 'Why should I care about the main character and his vendetta?'. If you're unsure about whether to play this, be prepared to have to be forgiving in order to like it.

It's so romanticized

If this is how I die

That's alright

Just take me back to Montreal

I'll get a real job, you'll go back to school

We can burn out in the freezing cold

And just get lost

She's asleep, in the backseat

Looking peaceful, enough to me

But she's waking up, inside a dream

F u l l o f s c r e e c h i n g t i r e s a n d f i r e

We're coming back, from where no one lives

Pretty much just veterans

When I pointed out where the North Star is

She called me a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ liar
