Remember the days of the early PS2? All the clunkyness of early 3D gaming had been ironed out, graphics hadn't yet reached the point of jaw dropping visuals and therefore almost all the focus of each new game was being spent making it fun to play.......... Helldiver's 2 gives you this by the truckload. The visuals look great don't get me wrong but if this game was made by say Bethesda or 343 studios then you would start the game with a slow pan through an ultra graphic landscape with blinding lens flare like JJ Abrams had commandeered the studio. Your character would be dropped off with your 'teacher insert character' and you would spend 30 minutes traipsing through thick jungle or woodland with scripted wildlife popping through the bushes to give you a good old jump scare. You would be taught all the mechanics of the game and instructed exactly how to do everything so that for the rest of the game you are just going through the motions.
Well Helldivers 2 says ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥!

After a quick tutorial stage you get your own destroyer class spaceship a couple of ordinance to call in and you are on your way to spread Managed Democracy throughout the galaxy! Go alone or with up to 3 other Helldivers with a wide array of support weapons and ordinance to mix and match with multiple style of missions form 'search and destroy' to 'disable illegal radio transmissions.' Those anti Super Earth bastards!

A feature I also want to talk about, and I do see it as a feature, is friendly fire. Litrilly everything can kill you in this game if you are not careful, space insects, terminator style robots, your teams weapons, airstrikes, grenades. There is an unlock able AI controlled Gatling turret that swivels and targets any nearby enemies, regardless of whether you or friendlies are in the line of fire. Don't want to get cut in half? Then dive on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ground loser! Yes, a designated ♥♥♥♥ the ground button is a key feature of the game but of course it wont give you a prompt to do it just in time, that's all down to you.

There are of course countless people singing this games praises and I'm sure my opinion wont be the deciding factor for you to buy this game, however the fact that I never write steam reviews and I have been compelled to write all this down speaks volumes on how special this games really is in the year 2024.

Probably the best 'Sonic' game we have seen in years!!!
