You need to borrow a NASA computer or spend a couple grand on a super-rig to run Odyssey properly (and there will still be bugs), but overall Elite is the best first-person space-exploration game on the market.

About half the ships are triangles or trapezoids, which kinda makes them all look a little samey on the surface, but there's good weapon variety and customization, and each ship has its own flight properties and usually its own engine sounds too.

They drop you in the deep end and let you figure out how to swim though, so read some guides or watch some youtube videos. Worth the money for Odyssey for sure, if you like running around on foot and exploring planet surfaces.

The biggest gripe I've got is the grindiness of this game. Once you start Engineering your ship parts, it becomes a chore. You can't buy engineering materials, you can only exchange them for others at a loss, get them from missions or scavenge them from wrecks. Some must be found on planet surfaces too. Start grabbing floating debris as you shoot pirates early, because you blow through it all really fast.

Besides that, it's annoying to have to pay for a ship you own to be transported to your location and then still have to wait upwards of an hour of real time in some cases for them to arrive. If you book a flight with a space taxi and have no ships at the destination, you can literally be stuck for hours waiting on a ship to be delivered. Stored ship parts also have wait times on top of the fee for being shipped. It's a little ridiculous... Also, if a ship is delivered to us like that, why can't the pilot be transported with it? Until you own a ship with a long jump range, long-distance travel can be a real pain.

Overall, 8/10. TL;DR Breakdown:
+++Combat
++Customization
++Music
++Graphics
+ Immersion
+ Surface Exploration
= Hardware Requirements
= No Handholding/Short Tutorial
= Unimaginative Ship Designs*
- Bugs (Odyssey)
- Lack of Explanation on most things
--Grindiness
--Travel-related Issues

*compared to competitors like Star Citizen or Eve Online

UPDATE 11/28/2024:

After massive updates to the Powerplay system, new ships, Thargoid wars, and more content like Colonization on the horizon, the future is looking bright. The best time to jump into Elite might've been a while back, but the second best time is now!

The game is solid. I and my younger brothers enjoy playing this game, but I unfortunately can't recommend it anymore. The Developers have decided that pushing new content voted for only by the minority of the players is more important than resurrecting content they inadvertently cut, or fixing the debilitating desync issues in Multiplayer.

Without the variety of missions one could go on back in pre-1.0, and without any ability for people without LUA scripting experience to make missions, the game feels kind of dead after like 3hrs of play. The Hostile Seas mode is a little more adaptive and challenging, but even on that note... Unsinkable AI ships exist, because the Devs' AI water-craft make liberal use of Physics Spawners to fill out the empty hulls of the boats.

I haven't been able to play this in Singleplayer ever since they gutted the mission variety and it's annoying to be unable to sink hostile ships - all you can do is disable their guns and engines. I'd follow the game and wait until it feels more alive again.

Still getting used to the surfer-hair, but overall I think I like Zane's AU skin the most.

I'm only downvoting this for one reason: Please don't buy this for its flat price though, my god. $9.99 for a skin? Just buy the season pass, it's already cheaper.

Edit: Update, just noticed that Zane's Final Form body mesh is really low-res on the Hands in first-person. Dunno if this will be fixed in the future, but right now, this really is not worth the $10. Gearbox needs to update the meshes, I hate looking at 240p resolution hands holding my high-res guns the whole time, it makes a bigger difference than I'd expected at first.

This DLC actually makes you rich. Like, there's so much cash it makes money even more worthless than before, no matter what level you are. Start it later on in your level progression and see what I mean. I've played it once at Level 20ish, and it was alright. Certain areas whooped me good due to level disparities, but now that I'm replaying it with my level 60 character on Mayhem 1, it's way more fun.

As you can tell already, yes, I recommend this if you don't have the Season Pass. If it's the only DLC you buy, buy this one. The next two are very meh in my humble opinion.

My opinion is as follows:

Pros:
  • Main villain is far more hateable and entertaining than the Calyp-So-so Twins.
  • Timothy. Probably the most likable side character in the game as a whole for me.
  • Moxxi's quips, Ember's french accent, Torgue's Bomb Sauces.
  • Atmosphere. Musical score, tasteful reincarnation of Jack's aesthetic, great lore.
  • The unique Legendaries and Epics are pretty great.
  • Every boss battle in this one is tough but fair. Great balancing and fun mechanics, bravo.
  • So. Many. Loaders.

Cons:
  • Digby and his quests (personal opinion, I didn't enjoy it. Cool weapon reward though.)
  • Some of the VIP rooms are frustrating, but it's part of the aesthetic I guess.
  • Perhaps it's not on par with BL2 DLC, but it's a lot of fun all the same.
  • Freddie. Not as bad as Ava (not even close), but still irritating. You get to kill him tho
  • So. Many. Loaders.

Crusader Kings II is in my top 10 favorite games I own. I've sunk a few hundred hours into it and can honestly say it's worth my nomination of "Labor of Love" 2k19. It's recently been moved to Free to Play, a move I think Paradox was wise to make, to get even more players into the game that might not have tried it otherwise.

It appeals to my history-nerd side, allowing me to shape history in strange and unexpected ways (What if the Byzantine Empire never fell and restored the old Roman Empire borders?) and you can really get attached to some of your Rulers you play as, as you move through the ages and play as your first character's sons and daughters (but mostly sons until you can get some progressive laws passed).

The DLC prices are steep unless you buy them onsale, but other than that I really can't think of any gripes worth noting. There might be a steep learning curve but it's all the more rewarding and intuitive to play once you figure it out. I *still* sometimes learn something new as I play.

I still vote for this game in the Steam Awards because it still gets nominated, and there's plenty of reasons for that even now that it's a few years old.

This game is great if you've already played the first two and are looking for something more. If you haven't bought it, I'd highly recommend you do so.

The movement in this game feels even less restrictive than Borderlands 2 with all of its low-gravity environments (and the little speederbike - called a Stingray - you get later on, love that thing). The lazer weaponry was a lot of fun to play around with, legendary weapons all felt extremely unique, and the final boss was one heck of a fight. The voice acting was great.

I played as Nisha in my playthrough and honestly her Ability is so much fun to use - if a little short-lived compared to the others. Her other class bonuses make up for this though. Even while playing BL3, I often find myself missing Nisha's abilities and still wishing I could be using them to play the other games now. By far my favorite playstyle in the Borderlands Franchise. Her voice lines were also great - she was a bad guy through and through, playing an Antihero like her is a lot of fun.

My only complaint was that it does feel shorter than the other two, though there's no lack of content.

Firewatch is a beautiful game. It's the first game since Portal 2 that has actually engaged my feelings to the point that I was deeply moved by the ending. Part of me wants to go back and try it again... But the other part of me? Just... Doesn't, because I know it'll end up being too human at the end. It's too humanly relatable for me to put myself through it again, especially now that I know the plot.

If you're a lover of mystery, of intrigue, of beautiful games and smooth gameplay... Pick this up on sale or something and run through it in one sitting. Save it for a weekend if you need to... But you can't put this title down and play the rest later. The buildup gets so intense.

Overall, I'd give it a solid 9/10. That lost point was due to me wanting so much more from the finale... Not because it wasn't well-written, or fitting, or because it was in some way subpar... It leaves you realizing you should've seen it coming. It just didn't make me smile like a typical American "happily ever after" would've. Therefore it's not something I'd play twice... I'm glad, very glad, that I bought it and played it though.

This review is basically my take on a timeless classic, but with the addition of a few mods that I believe greatly improve the beauty and immersion of the game.

The Game Itself.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is already acclaimed as one of the greatest RPG titles ever. It just won yet another Steam award, for "Standing the Test of Time." I couldn't agree more; I'm still loading up my modded save once a week or so to complete one or two of the myriad of side-quests I've yet to play through. It is uniquely engrossing even now, with so many years under its belt, with an atmosphere that just has to be experienced to be understood.

The Civil War questline was at first one of my favorite parts of the game, but even after replaying it for all possible outcomes left I felt like there was a bit of unexplored potential. (there are ultimately only two outcomes, not counting the option of simply ignoring it, even if the player negotiates the truce while playing through the main questline.)
However, the main questline was seamless from start to finish, even at the places where it touches the Civil War questline, and it literally left me staring at the screen, mouth agape, uttering alout to myself an awed "Wow." Perhaps not everyone felt the same, but that's why there's a review button for every player. :whiterun: The final location could perhaps have been a little more played-up, but it was more than enough to drop my jaw during my first playthrough.

The DLCs, which I have completed, were outstanding examples of what a paid expansion should offer: Entirely new gameplay mechanics, enough added content to make the buyers feel like their money was well-spent, and enough added gameplay hours of campaigning to satisfy plot-hungry fans. I was especially engrossed in the two DLC alternate dimensions: Dawnguard's ghastly Soul Cairn and Dragonborn's twisted Apocrypha tomes. Bravo, Bethesda.

My Modding Reccomendations.
I played vanilla Skyrim for roughly 35-40 hours before deciding to begin modding. By the time I started playing, the Skyrim Nexus was already teeming with so many great mods that there were at least five different choices for every fix or change, oftentimes many more. Thus, as the game is now, modding is about personal taste. My game is different from everyone else's, because it's seasoned to my own tastes both aesthetically and mechanically.

However, everyone starts somewhere, and if there are a few people out there who have not modded their Skyrim yet, I urge you to look up a brief beginner's guide (I believe the one that got me started was on Rock, Paper, Shotgun) and then take a look at my, or a friend's, list of other more in-depth choices. I'll include a few of the ones that satisfied me most here.
  • Seasons of Skyrim ENB[www.nexusmods.com]. This is the pivotal ambiance that defines your mod setup. There are many, many presets, but SoS is, in my opinion, the prettiest.
  • ELFX[www.nexusmods.com] for a complete indoor/dungeon lighting overhaul. You'll actually need to use that torch if you're not a Khajiit.
  • aMidianBorn Book of Silence[www.nexusmods.com] for 2k weapon and armor textures.
  • Superior Lore-Friendly Hair[www.nexusmods.com] to replace every NPC's ugly plastic do's with far more realistic, high-texture hair. (I'd also recommend using other mods for real NPC facelifting but those are legion and entirely up to the user's taste.)

Thanks for reading!
P.S. Death to the Stormcloaks!

HAWKEN is an edge-of-your-seat action game that is both well-balanced and very pyromaniac-friendly. Lots of explosions, lots of shooting. The game is 100% multiplayer as of now, and does have a few issues (I.E. All cosmetic upgrades must be bought with real money) but the gameplay is not pay-to-win at all. It's heavily teamwork-reliant as well, so if you don't have a good team behind you it's hard to win a match.

The 'mechs are widely varied and numerous, and each has its own unique dominances and weaknesses.
I would recommend this game to anyone who played Mech Assault on the Xbox, or other PC predecessor Mech Warrior games. Just be sure to drink some caffeine on your first few matches until you get used to the blinding speed of the combat. XD
