I'll start by reiterating what a lot of people have said already...

Mad Max is a pretty decent game. It does a lot of things well, and not a lot of things poorly. It's not the best game I've ever played but it's also far from the worst. It's one of those 7-8/10 games that can get lost amongst the rest.

It uses an open-world formula similar to that of a Ubisoft title with upgrades, things to collect, outposts to take-over, etc.

It is developed by Avalanche Studios who are also responsible for the Just Cause series, RAGE 2, Generation Zero, theHunter and a few others. This means the game benefits from a lot of the tech that studio is known for. It uses one of my favourite game engines: the APEX engine. The environments still look really nice and it's a very well-optimised game meaning you don't need a monster PC to run it smoothly.
Like the Just Cause series, this game has explosions and some pretty neat weather effects. But the explosions and weather effects feel a lot more refined in this game. Quality over quantity, so-to-speak.
There's a pretty neat mechanic which involves a massive storm sweeping over the landscape and engulfing the player if they don't make it back to a safehouse in time. During the storm there's a chance big containers of scrap metal will fly passed you which you can collect, but the storms also have a chance to damage you periodically. This leads to a risk vs reward situation. I think they played pretty safe with the storm mechanic. I would love to see it a bit more fleshed-out as a key part of the game because it very rarely happens and there's a lot of potentially to do something really cool with it especially utilising Avalanche Studio's tech.

The driving feels pretty good. There's a lot of different vehicles and a fair-amount of upgrades to choose from. The vehicle combat is good as well and there's quite a lot of strategy to it, although, I did find it quite frustrating at times especially near the beginning of the game before I had unlocked all of the cool upgrades.

The melee combat is okay. It also suffers from potentially feeling a bit frustrating near the beginning of the game before useful upgrades have bee unlocked.

The driving and vehicle combat + melee combat have to be well implement in this game because the game would suffer tremendously otherwise because there's are integral to the core gameplay-loop. Thankfully they seem to be adequate.

One aspect of the game that really shines IMO is the outpost design. Some of the outposts are really cool in the way they've been made to feel apart of the world. There are outposts built-up into an old oil rig sitting on the dried-up ocean floor, outposts in old rusty container ships, outposts hanging from a bridge, etc. Just really cool designs and where they sit within the wasteland.

The story was fairly standard. Not much going on here, really. I didn't have high expectations and I wasn't too disappointed. Some of the cutscenes and voice-acting was quite well-done, I will say.

I wrote down a list of cons while I was playing the game because I planned to talk about them in the review but looking at my list now, they're really just little nit-picky things like: the camera reset function not working properly on controller, exiting the map screen often causes the character to roll (I've rolled off a lot of cliffs this way D:), some character animations take a bit too long. Small gripes, really.

Overall I would say the game is definitely worth your time and money if you are interested in it. While not being one of the best games out there, it offers a beautiful wasteland to explore and some pretty cool vehicle combat.

Spoiler-free review:

Outer Wilds is a truly fascinating game. Full of mystery and adventure and shear wonder.

What I really appreciate about this game is that there are no checkpoints, no locked gates or gear-checks to stop you from progressing. The only thing that stands between you and finishing the game is knowledge. And it's seeking out this knowledge that the game does an incredible job of making it fun and full of mind-blowing moments. The world is already there ticking-over and you get dumped in the middle of it.

Another thing I really appreciate about this game is how truly seamless it is. It gives new meaning to the term "seamless open-world" - trust me.

Also, the achievements for this game are really enjoyable to do and made me appreciate the game even more.

Try not to look anything up before going into this game. Just dive-in and get lost in it's world and all it has to offer because the most enjoyable parts of the whole experience are figuring-out what to do next and unfolding it's story.

It is well worth your time.

Subnautica is a unique experience. One where the fear seems to complement the gameplay very nicely.
It has a fantastic atmosphere set on an alien planet and an interesting story that kept me wanting to know more and more with each mystery that unfolded.
I really appreciate all the little details and animations that sowed everything together. Like, climbing ladders in and out of vehicles and being able to freely move around the interiors of some vehicles and really customise the space you're in.
I felt constantly in control the whole time thanks to these details and the various, superbly-designed UI's. Everything feels so intuitive and simple while allowing you maximum control.
The whole world and progression design is so well executed. There were a few times where I felt like I wasn't sure what to do next but there was always some new area I hadn't explored.
The main thing that seemed to hinder my progress was the fear. The fear of the unknown and a lack of confidence. But I think it's this feeling that really makes the game so enjoyable and fulfilling, overall.

I have completed every single achievement and clocked just under 170hrs of game time Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. I feel now, that I am in the best possible position to write a review for this game as I have explored virtually all of it's content that it has to offer.

I played this game on Xbox360 when it was first released back in 2012. I thought it was a pretty awesome game but I never got that far into it because I found it very differcult and it had a very minimal and frustrating fast-travel system. But this game had a very intriguing open-world and combat system. So when I heard that it was being released on PC earlier this year I got really excited and pre-ordered it and jumped straight into it on release-day.
I was everything I had remembered plus more. The lack of fast-travel had been fixed and a great new system of travel had been implemented. The playing can aquire an item called "Portcrystals" that they can then place anywhere in the over-world and teleport to them as many times as they want. They can also be picked up and put down somewhere else. I really enjoyed this freedom to customise where I could instantly teleport to, put it didn't hinder my incentive to explore.

I think this game probably has some of the best-looking combat in a video-game I've ever come across. The magic looks beautiful, the monsters you fight are huge and epic. It's a party-based game so you make up 1/4 of your team. The AI is extremely intelligent, and I found it quite refreshing to not have to do ALL the work in a combat situation.

Your allies (referred to as "Pawns" in-game) are always activiely learning about quests as you do them and monsters as you fight them. This creates very dynamic gameplay. And I would always find myself being impressed with my parties capabilities during a fight or quest, whether it be casting a healing-spell or using their sheild to spring-board my assassin up onto the shoulders of an enemy cyclopes or gathering herbs or mining ore and so-on...

This game offers the usually aspects of a good RPG: gathering / crafting, exploration, NPC relationships, dialogue choices, class ranks and a character level range from 1-200.

The story is absolutely fantastic and I was blown-away at how everything all added up at the end of my first playthrough. This game is based around the player completing subsequent playthroughs to get through some of the end-game content. And what's really impressive is that it actually manages to tie it all in with it's lore and story.
On my first playthrough, I thought some of the events that happened as part of the story were a bit weird and ambiguous, but as soon as I finished my first playthrough it all made sense and everything had it's purpose.

The Steam version of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen includes the expansion which is basically a differcult mega-dungeon aimed at players who are progressing through the late-game. It has a very Dark Souls feel to it.

Overall, I would give this game a 9 / 10
The graphics are still beautiful and the combat is some of the most impressive and dynamic and epic I've come across in a video-game. I have some great memories of playing this game and I would recommend it to any RPG fan or Skyrim fan looking for something a bit more hardcore but found Dark Souls too differcult :P

This game is really good. It's a great price for what you get and there's no micro-transactions or anything. What you buy is what you get outright. Captures a desperate post-apocalyptic atmosphere really well. It's not as crafty as games like Rust, but it makes up for it in it's highly-detailed and static world. The map doesn't randomly generate which is a nice change being able to familiarise yourself with the terrain. The global events seem really fun and well-balanced. A great game to play with friends. I'd give her an 8/10 in my humble opinion.

New Zealand-made action-RPG. Massively-Multiplayer. Diablo II clone. But ACTUALLY really good. Looking forward to new content being released for it.
