It's almost poetic, really. Half-Life 2: Episode 2 details the struggle of Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance as they struggle through hardships on their way to White Forest. The game, after a few surprises here and there, ends on a high note - the Combine have, for now, been defeated. Everyone is celebrating, but also awaiting anxiously for what comes next.

But there is hope.

Then, as the game ends, that hope has been shattered, sucked dry in a few, agonizing moments. With Eli gone, the Resistance has lost some of its will to fight. Even though the Combine have been crippled, they do not die, and the Resistance must struggle yet more against the shadow of their malefactors.

Time will tell whether or not they succeeded. Perhaps the Resistance, after waiting for over a decade, will finally get their wish - to be free, at last. They can finally rest a little bit easier at night, knowing that they now have what they wanted.
Until such a day, however, this is the end of the line. This is the final stop until they finish building that railroad ahead.

In the meantime... This is where I get off.
