That said the dlc in general is a mixed bag. Rag Mega and Big horn are very cool new bosses, the new challenges are fun, and Apollyon is a very interesting new character, who essentially starts off very weak but can become amazing if you use him right. He's probably my favorite thing about the whole expansion. Some of the new items such as Jacob's Ladder, The Void and The Smelter are genuinely useful while other things like The Clicker aren't really useful but are fun. That said there are a lot of crappy items as well (because isaac needed more useless familiars, right?) but there's more good items compared to how people are making it out to be a huge pile of awful items.

The void and it's boss are genuinely good ideas and I do somewhat enjoy them. The problem is that since The Void simply merges a bunch of old rooms, you know everything you have to do and it becomes pitifully easy, which is a big problem for something that's supposed to be THE final level. (its music track is very good though so it has that going for it I guess) The boss is decent gameplay wise but visually ugly.

It could have been much better for sure but I would take the "DONT BUY THIS ITLL RUIN YOUR GAME" posts with a grain of salt. People are blowing it's issues way out of proportion.

edit: also its amazing how people are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about things that were already in the game like items being behind locks and useless secret rooms

Edit 2: I can more confidently recommend this after the updates that have been made so far. Glaring problems such as the sisters vis being too hard, the portals being annoying and greedier mode being too hard being fixed. Clearly there is an effort to recover from this expansion's atrocious launch, and I have a feeling it will only get more solid.

You know for such a goofy premise this game has a pretty decent amount of substance

Take your usual fishing game, except not only do you play as a cat (I hope you figured that out already) but hunt for colorful, fictional fish. It's quite fun, and the game gives you plenty of things to do in the quest for sea food, including quests and upgrades to seek out.

On the other hand, catching a specific fish can be very mildly irritating sometimes, and you also have to dodge a crapton of fish in order to get the bigger fish, though there are semi-reliable ways to get around this.

It's dirt cheap so if you're bored I'd recommend it.

I love this game, I really do. However, looking at it from a critical standpoint, I have to categorize it as a mixed bag.

The game really rolls with the concept of you coming off of earthbound or something similar, and it does a fairly decent job at being at it's attempt at being a successor, albeit focusing more on the comedy side than the emotion/nightmare fuel side. There's even a few blatant references and not so blatant references here and there, and the battle system doesn't do a bad job at capturing that feel.

Outside of that, the game's humor is often spot on, and it's pretty fun to walk around recruiting new characters and doing side quests. The characters themselves are really colorful, and have no problem standing out despite the sheer amount of them. The story line really doesn't take itself very seriously, but does enough that you can at least get relatively invested in it.

On the other hand, the enemy spawn rates can be highly obnoxious, and I often feel ready to tear my hair out after having to trudge through hundreds of repetitive enemies just for one simple goal. There's so much stuff to do half the time I don't even realize what I should be doing, and end up killing a bunch of things for no reason. Though this has gotten better with updates, the game still has a few bugs, the most common one I got being stuck and having to restart.
The bosses are also often anticlimactic, since the hordes of enemies usually pose more of a threat.

Overall, it's a game you can get a lot of fun out of-and a game you need quite a lot of patience for.

Well hey it takes up way more space than it should and you can probably get it for even less

but it works and I lost all of my other namco ports so what the heck

It's fun to sadistically inflate things until they explode

you get nine games in one, cant go wrong with that

i lost all of my soul hearts when i traded away all of my red hearts

was very close to writing a negative review at that point

buuuut it's still nearly as fun as the remake, would recommend trying this first if you can't afford that since it's a fraction of the cost

i like to play it for the music more than anything
