17.4.2018. Game #34

Is someone a "real gamer" if they play nothing but Bejeweled? Yes they are

It’s probably more interesting to discuss whether or not someone qualifies as a gamer by playing Bejeweled than actually playing it. Let me just end all discussion here by saying: if you play any sort of game (even if it’s as basic as pong, Tetris or solitaire) you are a gamer. So if you like to play Bejeweled (and maybe no other game in existence) you are still a gamer.

Match 3 jewels! Repeat until something stops you

With that said, Bejeweled (1,2,3 any number) is as basic a game as any. You have a grid with different colored gems. You swap gems either vertically or horizontally to make 3 gems in a row which makes them disappear. Once the gems disappear new gems fall from the top and you look for more gems to do the same thing until you run out of time, complete the level, run out of moves or get bored. You can also try and match 4 or even 5 gems to make super gems which clear up much more of the grid. That’s the whole gameplay.

A bit more than your average match-3 game

Simple? Absolutely! Fun? Definitely! Addictive? Probably, but not for me.
While what I described above is the basic idea of Bejeweled, Bejeweled 3 offers a few more modes to keep the game interesting. You have the classic mode which requires a certain amount of points to move on to the next level (which is the same as the last one). Zen mode is a relaxing mode with no time limit and no pressure. Lightning mode is a timed mode where the game ends if you run out of time without making enough matches. Quest mode tasks you with doing various things on the grid like breaking certain gems, not letting a gem from the bottom reach the top, expanding the grid and so on. These modes also unlock other modes that add as fun distractions.

While the different modes are nice and welcome, they really don’t change the game all that much and they certainly won’t make you like suddenly like this game if you previously didn’t.

Lovely music and an inspiring narrator

The game also has very pleasant music and an encouraging narrator that praises you every time you make a few good moves. The graphics are simple but appealing. The gems sparkle nicely.

If you just need something simple, fun and stress free to waste time on, for 5 euros this seems like a great deal.

HOWEVER

Why on earth would anyone pay for this when there are so many free versions of this game on… everything.
Don’t get me wrong, as far as a color matching games go, this is a great one but so are all other color matching games… and most of them are free. Chances are, if you like color matching games you are probably already playing one on your mobile phone. Sure those versions have microtransactions and ads but, they are essentially the same experience.

As much as I like Bejeweled 3, I don't think it's worth paying money for a game like this,at least not in today's day and age

If Bejeweled 3 was the only one of its kind, then “YES” it would definitely be worth 5 euros, but it’s not, not by a long shot. There are thousands of games just like this one available for free and as much as I want to recommend this, I simply can’t.

Next game: Bendy and the Ink Machine

you didn't like the game and that's fine, it's your opinion. Until someone opinion is discriminating or don't try to see other than himselve, I'm fine with it. those are god review.

OK? I don't really understand your comment. Are you happy that you bought the game? If you are happy, good for you, don't let my review ruin your good time.

well, bejeweled is the creator of the match-3 genre. I personally bought it ironically, simple as that. You dont need a good reason sometime to do shit :NDT_Money:

Honestly, Bejeweled 3 is a good game and it has a lot of great game modes but, while all that's good, there are hundreds of thousands of free Match 3 games out there so it makes no sense to buy this one, at least not in my opinion.

Good review. While there may be something to be said for paying money for a match 3 game that doesn't have ads or microtransactions, there's no ignoring the fact that match 3 games can be found for free everywhere these days. I personally like Bejeweled, but given that I already have hundreds of games, and that I could find a match 3 game for free if I really wanted one, I'm personally undecided on buying this one.
