Excellent game. Tight gameplay loop, fun art style, great execution of city builder/resource manager and it handles the "roguelike" aspect really nicely. I expected the core loop to be much shallower and lean more into the roguelike cycles, but its actually got great depth to the primary city builder aspect so you get the feel of building a sprawling town AND feel good when it crumbles to dust because you're making progress for the next run.

Very impressive to see from a solo dev!

immediately engaging, learning curve isnt steep, early game is punishing but not in a "make you want to start over kinda way". The story and interactions are remarkably well written - not gonna change your life, but it feels like it creates the mood and communicates what it's intended to very well. Highly rec checking out

A lot of depth here, I went somewhat quickly and got one of four possible endings. Will be playing through again to see the others!

10/10. Monster Train doesn't hide the fact that it is standing on the shoulders of giants (namely, Slay the Spire). But MT has done an incredible job at a difficult endeavor: keeping all the things that made StS great while innovating creative new mechanics that do make it a totally different game and introduce a ton of thrill, excitement and discovery that immediately starts delivering that "just one more run" feeling.

I've only put a few hours in so far but I already know I'm going to be putting in several hundred hours into this game.
