The independant developers did everything right: The shaping, ripening, polishing and maintenance of the game, listening to and respecting their player community, the traditional, no-bs business model, as well as independently hosting their own ad-free wiki, forum and mod portal. The several hundred weekly "Friday Facts" newsletters have been informative to follow over the years. Factorio is my alltime favourite computer game!
