Regardless of what you think politically of cops; even if you are like me and you are anti cop in your own beliefs with previous law enforcement education putting me in the role of a SWAT officer in game actually really put things into perspective.

I love the feelings this game evokes of playing as a SWAT team in a dystopian America, it all feels so at home, relateable and interesting and plausible to be happening in reality. The crimes and the scenes in this game feel real to the point of disturbing and even emotionally provoking. This game makes you wonder what it must actually be like to be a SWAT member dealing with these issues.

On the other hand the tactical gameplay both for single player, or CO-OP with your friends is superb. I don't like playing with random people in public lobbies as people are not well coordinated and often kill civilians on purposes or ruin the game etc. So play single player with the ai teammates and really take advantage of commanding your ai teammates with persistence! If they don't listen the first time command your ai teammates again and they will likely do the action or just move them over slightly and they will breach or unstuck themselves etc. I have no huge problems with the friendly ai just minor criticisms and it can improved with mods as well to make ai on enemies and teammates even better with SWAT & Suspects AI overhaul mod. Mods make this game shine even more and push it to the way it should be played to a even more personally tailored experience and more realistic, immersive and detailed experience.

Remember, you are not the military. in this game you are trying to preserve life, save civilians, handle volatile situations and only take life when it is required you do so. That's how it should be played. You are in the city of Los Suenos, you are expected as one of the only SWAT teams in the whole funded deprived region and station to then take on the entire city in your crudely just put together police department...

The responsibility this game places on you, your team as well for your actions feels real and huge! I personally think shooting civilians should be punished more severely however.

On the other hand as much as I love this game, I am still on the side of ACAB in real life. But I love this game really puts policing as a SWAT team into perspective in how dangerous it is and how traumatic, adrenaline rushing or even scary as it can really be!

Aslong as you are a patient person willing to see how creative and interesting this game is; this game can give you unlimited potential for anything you want to do pretty much as the modding scene makes this sandbox game give you the ability to do just about anything you can imagine in your mind.

I personally use gmod to make realism gameplay videos of sorts. But you can mod the game to do other things such as crossing over NPC's from different videogames to face off each other. Or for example completely spoofing up the game for a non serious meme worthy experience for a good laugh. Or you can mod the game to become a tactical shooter with survival horror elements, Gmod really does leave the player with full customization over the entire game allowing you to tailor the whole experience to you personally.

It's YOUR Gmod setup. The entire game is directed like a movie by you at all times in this sandbox game. You, your enjoyment & what you create out of Gmod is the objective.

It requires finese and a lot of messing around to get Gmod setup properly and decluttered of excessive mods if you download too many and getting it well optimized is a challenging but key component that can also be assisted by making a custom autocfg file that will contain helpful commands for improving performance such as activating m_core_test 1 or something like that for more CPU cores to actually be used in Gmod and even improving the lighting such as r_radiosity 4 (pardon me if i spelled that wrong), but the results are satisfying and worthwhile with effort, the right mods config and commands, and a strong computer, beefier the better. I personally recconmend the 64 Bit beta opt in version of the game for more modding capabilities and functionality, improved performance and as well as the ability to intake more, infinite memory ceiling into the game rather then the hard 4gb limit 32 bit source engine pushes before it crashes.

You can literally create whole short films or youtube videos with this game. Theirs so many tools available to you to setup any skit or situation. Take your time to learn it the learning curve is actually not that bad. Check it all out and start brain storming and working on your own projects... or even just explore maps and fight npcs and have fun, drive vehicles both land and air or even in space.

It may be old but it's a timeless classic that's quite mod capable for a more remastered experience both client side or server side like mini games and plugins and such. plus the community can be wholesome, just gotta find the right people and servers. If this old game ever got more popular again a bit more a review like this i hope would be encouraging for the growth of its current and even somehow still growing community such as old players coming back on a new gaming pc rig like myself vs my old poo poo scrub setup. Don't remind me of the days when i tried playing counter strike on a cheap laptop track pad or a controller or even its crappy built in cheap laptop keyboard. Old Toshibia lappy. Now im on a new MSI Trident 3 rig. CSS has many memories and im excited to make more. I highly recommend Old-Farts-Community Custom maps server if you are local enough and the ping is low enough for you in your area. Im Canadian myself but close to the U.S border. I get low ping and great connection and custom maps and cool server plugins, plus graphical mods and such new sounds plus a wonderful community in that server and you can't go wrong in having a great time and even laughing a bit and not taking life or the game so seriously and just chill, vibe and relax.
