Early Access Review
EA Review: I'm loving this game so far with currently 523 hrs of playtime on record, the developer has definitely put a lot of thought and research into the era this amazing game is set in - Medieval Scottish Highlands (1300's).

Surviving the first winter if you haven't prepared enough food, firewood, shelter and some initial research can be difficult to say the least.

My first play-thru started with 5 Family members, 2 adults, 2 tween's and a baby. At the start of winter I thought I'd prepared enough firewood, food and single room shelter with 5 beds and an indoor campfire. What could go wrong? ;-/ Well everything really, the first night with the outside toilet holes a little too far away and a -30f windchill, the baby needed the toilet and started the journey outside soon followed by her mother, this quest took the lives of the baby and her primary care-giver from hypothermia.

In the morning, after getting something to eat, the surviving family members ventured out into a slightly warmer -10f temperature to dig the graves, after a few hours the graves were dug , a few more hours later the bodies were buried. The father spent the next 3 days in bed trying to recovery from hypothermia, he didn't make it not because of the hypothermia but dehydration (all the water was frozen).

The 2 kids survived the winter and several more years until they were old enough to marry, the girl was first and she moved away to start a family. The remaining child never found a wife and eventually died of old age and so ends my first play-thru.

Did I try again, of course because with every tragic play-thru, you learn how to help them survive longer, better and stronger,

it's currently still in Early Access and very playable and progress is being made with upcoming additions to the gameplay and complexity being announced just a couple days ago (Feb 14th, 2023). The game seems to be a labour-of-love for the developer and that can't be a bad thing.

I strongly recommend this to anyone tired of the 'fight whatever enemy happens to wander-by' colony building survival type game.

I'm really at a lose of what more I could add to what's already been said about Rdr2.

The graphics and music are beautiful, the story is captivating and really adds to the immersion into Arthur Morgan's world.

Would I recommend Red Dead Redemption 2, yes in a heart beat but be aware that all games you play after this will be lackluster and shallow in comparison. (IMHO)

I have lost so many hours in this epic game. The concept is pretty simple, survive long enough to build an efficient environment for your Duplicants on you little piece of space rock, sounds easy but the reality is so much harder to accomplish.

You start with a finite amount of oxygen and food and 3 neurotic Duplicants. You'll need to produce oxygen, food and sleeping areas pretty quickly. Oh and don't forget the toilets because it'll get pretty messy and hazardous to your Duplicants health very, very quickly.

There are many different routes to accomplishing your survival goals and even more ways to kill off your Duplicants. I find this very replayable because no two worlds are ever exactly the same and it often requires a complete re-thinking of your master plan.

Love it or Love to hate it, I bet that generator room you built needs a major overhaul before all that wiring is fried. ;-)

Updated Nov. 2024 "Been playing since beta 15 and quite simply, I still love RimWorld even after 23,000+ hours of playtime (damn i really need to get a life), I'm still finding new ways of dramatically killing off all my colonists.

Loved it as vanilla and now with all DLC except Anomaly, should I need a game-play tweak (currently about 600+ mods and stuff installed), I only need to look in the workshop."

The modding community has really outdone themselves with RimWorld, almost anything that is needed or could be changed in game can be found in the workshop.

edit: Feb 25, 2020
I have just purchased the Royalty dlc, so now to see if any of my current mod list still works, though i'm pretty confident that any that fail to work will be fixed by the excellent modding community in due time. :-)

Surprisingly fun and addictive little game, similar to Harvest Moon. There are many ways to play and lose all sense of time in Stardew Valley. Farming, Fishing, Mining etc. as well as some exploration and mystery solving.

If you're a fan of Harvest Moon or similar games, then this game is a must have. One piece of advice though, if you need to be somewhere in RL when you start playing, set an alarm reminder. 20 minutes soon becomes 2 hours when you get into Stardew Valley. Enjoy

Ok graphics, ok controls, good for a 30 minute time killer but not enough content or challenge.

Good Job it was free

The last passable F1 game I played was Grand Prix Manager 2 by microprose in 1996, this game far surpasses anything before it and because it's on steam will likely continue to be updated by the developers and the community.

I have enjoyed playing management/city building/strategy games since they first start appearing in the early 1980's and recently I was asked to start reviewing mods for Cities: Skylines on a couple of websites.

Why Cities:Skylines, well it has an amazing modding community that has transformed an above average city building game into an amazing one. The majority of these coders are quiet and unassuming and simply brilliant, while a few others are worse than Kanye West (arrogant, self righteous with their heads stuck up their own backsides) and only so-so coders that blame their short-comings on others. But all-in-all it has a great community that is always coming up with new ideas for making this game more realistic and fun.

City building doesn't get much better than this. The modding community has already made this game so much better and CO are still adding new features.

If you are a die-hard city-builder or a novice, this game is a must. Great game as it is now, The definitive city-builder game in the future.
