*SLIGHT GAMEPLAY SPOILERS*

I do not normally write any serious reviews, but I found this game to be absolutely outstanding and exceeded my expectations in every way. The atmosphere, the art style, the gameplay, it's all incredible.

Originally I was on the fence about buying this game, as I never really enjoyed the horror genre in general, but after reading more about the game and seeing how awesome the developers of this title are, I decided to bite the bullet and spend the money, and I have not regretted it once since my first time waking up in that decrepit, run-down shack in the meadow.

Firstly, this game's atmosphere is astounding. I have never felt a real sense of dread from just walking around in broad daylight through a windy field. I always felt like some horrible monstrosity was going to ambush me every time I turned the corner. Simply walking past a tree can put you on the edge of your seat, as you can never truly know if it is safe unless you have direct line of sight on what you want to investigate, as your blindspots only give you the most basic details. A simple bush may be hiding that last gasoline tank you need to survive the night, or you may find yourself face-to-face with a mutated creature that splits its torso open to act as a make-shift mouth.

Night time is always a tense experience. Every single day consists of exploring the woods, gathering supplies, and returning to your hideout before nightfall. No matter how well I had prepared, I was always put on edge as I heard the footsteps and growls of the creepy crawlies outside. The sounds of the sinister forest will always be there to remind you that you are not welcome there, and that you are never safe. The wind will be flowing through the cracks of your ramshackled house, and sometimes swear you just heard a whisper, only for it to be drowned out by the sound of a savage breaking down your door. What's more, every single night there is a chance for special "events" to occur. Sometimes they can be potentially beneficial, sometimes they won't really cause you any trouble and are just there to creep you out, and other times you will be begging for mercy as an army of phantoms suddenly appear to turn your lights off and hunt you down in your own cabin.

This game has absolutely no jumpscares from my experience, and has instead focused all of it's efforts into being as disturbing and unsettling as possible in order to make you scared. In most horror games, when you see a dark hallway, you expect to walk down for a few seconds only to be greeted with the oh-so original jumpscare. Perhaps the volume will be cranked up passed eleven in order to simulate the sounds a chimpanzee would make if it was getting its testicles violently sandwiched between two pieces of stale bread. This game, however, does not do anything like this, and if you are like how I was, wanting to experience a horror game but not wanting to have your eardrums blown off or fearing of heart attacks every few minutes, then this game is absolutely perfect. However, this does not mean it is for everyone. It is a challenging game and absolutely will not hold your hand. Unless I had missed something, there is no real tutorial. It had taken me hours to figure out that I could dodge (which you do by hitting CTRL just in case you were wondering) and I didn't realize I could reload batteries into dying flashlights until the last few days at the final area of the game.

Overall, I have been severely impressed by the quality of this game, especially considering the fact that it was made by a team of three people in Poland! I 100% recommend this game if you want to play a game that delivers a true feeling of unease and despair the entire way through. Just make sure you go in knowing almost nothing about the story. I promise that it's worth it. Acid Wizard Studios have earned themselves a follower, and I cannot express how excited I am to see what other masterpieces they create in the future! 10/10 from me!
