As an avid (C)RPG fan, BG3 is 10/10, an amazing once-in-a-generation RPG. Certainly one of the greatest of all time. Perhaps the greatest.

The level of choice is amazing. The writing is great. The characters are fun. The combat is good. Performance is smooth. Sven and Larian have proven with BG3 (along with the Divinity series) to be a reliable source of greatness. I am excited to see what they can make next. Until then, I am sure I will enjoy this again and again.

Very good. If you enjoy Turn-based tactical combat, management, and strategy this will fit your bill well.

It does have its problems. Most of my critiques have been mentioned here. The overall narrative is fairly bland and the writing feels very much like a single-dev indie game, so if you play games primarily for the story and writing, this isn't that game.

The campaign/story quests felt like it dragged out a bit. Maybe it was the pacing or requirements to unlock them. I am not sure. But, personally, the game felt like it dragged towards the end.

I personally don't mind the art-style, but I would have preferred the male characters having the option of being more masculine. A lot of the time, men just looked like women with beards.

All-in-all a great game, especially for an indie. Well worth the money, in my opinion. I put ~70 hours into it in roughly two weeks.

You don't make the mods, Bethesda. You don't get paid for them.

You've done enough damage to your brand and the game. Stop digging.

EDIT 2: Like most of the player-base, as you can see below, my feelings on the game shift as CA's direction does. This game/series has had its share of ups-and-downs, and while there are still plenty of problems with the game (as any veteran player would tell you), CA are beginning to make steps back in the right direction.

Just as we have to be critical with their mistakes, we have to be positive with their accomplishments. Thrones of Decay and 5.0 were a big plus, so I am changing my review to positive. I can only hope they stay on this path.

I love this game to pieces. I have played Total War for around a decade. I probably have more than 1k hours across this trilogy alone, not to mention the other titles.

However, the game has A LOT of bugs and issues that have remained unfixed for a LONG time and combined with the recent tone-deaf approach of the developers I cannot recommend this to anyone at the moment.

It is really sad to see another gaming company I love fall into the pit of endless greed that plagues the industry. I hope they come back to the light soon.

EDIT 1: CA has recently took a torch to the community forums. Its not looking good boys.

I have a monster PC, 4090 ryzen 7 7800x3d. This game crashed 24/7. Can't get through a single campaign mission without a "Fatal Error" crash. Otherwise looks like it would be fun, but I will never know with it crashing as much as it does.

I love the base game, and the new gladiator class is cool. However, keep in mind, it is not uncommon for a bug to occur which prevents you from completing some of the new DLC quests.

I rarely write reviews, but I felt that Expeditions: Rome warranted a formal message of approval. In the past week I played the game for almost 100 hours, over the course of two separate playthroughs.

The story is good enough to keep an avid RPG story-centric player such as myself enthralled with the handful of choices and paths presented, to the degree that I believe there is about 3 playthroughs worth of content here. There are one or two points throughout the game which are disappointing, but overall I am very satisfied with what is here.

In terms of gameplay, combat is good and what you would expect from an Expeditions game. It feels significantly improved over its predecessor Expeditions: Vikings and each class seems to have a more refined identity. I have personally found the Veles class to be exceptionally strong. If you enjoy turn-based tactical combat, you will enjoy this.

Graphics are not the best I have ever experienced, but throughout my play-time I never had any glaring issues that took me out of the experience. They are more than passable and quite fit the theme and setting. Speaking of which, was particularly well-done for the historical-fiction route that they took.

The greatest problems I experienced were a fairly consistent amount of crashing (not enough to be a large problem, about once ever 3-4 hours I would get a hard crash to desktop, but otherwise non-existent), and the pathing of your party. Because the game always has you walking around with a group of 6 (and you can't split them up) you will occasionally get stuck or will not be able to reach a source of loot (a body or chest).

Beyond this, the game has a few perks and faults that I cannot remember at the writting of this review, but after playing it for 100 hours I can confidently say I highly recommend this game and it is well-worth the price to any individual who enjoys RPG or turn-based combat titles, you will get your investment returned.

A special thanks to the developers for making a quality product and a sincere hope that you will release some form of expansion/dlc/additional content for this game and/or new titles under the Expedition series.

9/10 highly recommend.
