it quiets my autism like nothing else

its actually quite intuitive if you read what the different triggers are and getting a build working is satisfying
10/10 would become an uninhabitable berzerker spraying blood on the entire map 500x per turn

Edit: Updating my review because the dev really cooked with this game and they deserve full compliments. I'm normally not a huge fan of rogue-likes - Hades and Roboquest really being the only two that have made an impression with me over the years. I get a bit bogged down when these types of games have limited (or tedious) levels of progression/upgrades between runs. I didn't think I would enjoy Path of Achra but the demo absolutely hooked me.

You see, the real progression is the mental gains you get on figuring out how the different abilities and items work together. This works so well in Path of Achra because you get access to your build very quickly in your runs and will quickly learn the true power of your ideas. It's all meat and no filler. Unlocking all the races, classes and gods can be done relatively quickly, and you're left with a very complete challenge that asks you to break it before it breaks you.

Getting your ascetic teleportation gorilla build 90% of the way there and getting clapped by a boss doesn't feel painful - it feels exciting that you got as far as you did, and I immediately want to try again instead of exiting the game in frustration. I'm hooked.

RIP Battlerite, hello Supervive!
Not a battle royal enjoyer per say, but It feels more like an arena style moba than a BR. I like that matches don't take too long, characters are easy to understand but hard to master, and there's a ton of options for different playstyle. We'll see if the game can go the distance but it's good fun!

***Purchased on sale for 5CAD, would recommend waiting for sale as this goes on pretty regularly
I used to play this on my macbook in middle school, ripped from paulthetall's website. Never did much other than fight bandits and get taken prisoner, but man was it a good time.
Coming back to this game over a decade later, and I'm hooked. It really is more of a sandbox with a simulated kingdom that you play around in. You set your own goals and decide how you want to impact the world, and go from there. I'm learning the game basically for the first time, and would recommend turning down the difficulty a bit so you can get familiar with the game's systems before trying to sweat - no shame in that! There's a lot of nuance about what units are best, how to build your character and party members, kingdom management etc to learn.

I haven't played around with any of the conversion mods but there's a ton of ways to modify your game. It honestly never gets old leading a cavalry charge into an enemy army and hearing your men shout for victory after you've murdered everyone on horseback.

pretty cool, tight survival / exploration experience with a surprisingly compelling overarching narrative
original aesthetics and the creatures / biomes look great, and the lore tidbits are neat
I like that this game doesn't overstay its welcome either, took me about 30 hours to beat it.
I will say i did encounter a few bugs that I'm surprised are still in a 'released game' - ships randomly disappearing, clipping through walls / falling through the map (looking at you, Aurora) and some wonky AI behaviour. However, nothing gamebreaking or stuff that couldn't be fixed with console commands.

I'm not a huge survival crafting nut either but I did like this game. I would probably wait for a sale though.

This is an alpha, and it's a quite an early state, with a lot of polish, fixes, and content to be added.
Some units don't have their AI working properly (looking at you, Tanks - they just kinda sit there), and pathfinding / spawning / targeting needs work.
Animations and viewmodels aren't quite finished, and the movement is a bit stiff with some adversarial map geometry. UI is functional but needs some love and QOL.

That being said - I couldn't wait to get my hands on this when I saw the steam page, and I'm having a blast. The moments when everything does work as intended are amazing, and the games future rests on those moments becoming the norm.

When it works, my solo raids are like this: Spawn in, listen for troops immediately close to me and listen where the fighting is happening and decide if I should loot near active combat (as enemies are distracted) or pick through the quiet parts of the map (greater risk of being singled out by enemies patrolling). Decide to head to the fighting, pick off some units near the back to loot / free up my movement, constantly having to watch my back for reinforcements and deciding what to keep / throw. Then a giant ♥♥♥♥ off mech gets air dropped into the middle of the field and I have to book it because it's raining rockets and explosive shells and I don't want to get pasted with a full inventory. Narrowly make it to extract and gun down some cybernetic zombies on the way there.

I'm also quite captivated by the world that Fun Dog has created, the maps look incredible, as do the enemy units and the sounds are pretty good to. There's an insane amount of detail in the environment - like in Elephant graveyard where the ground you walk on is literally skulls, bones, and discarded shells. Or when you load in and it's the 'night shift' where everything is foggy, cyborgs are roaming and robo vore mommy is hungry.

All in all, if you're ok with jumping into this game as 'playable enough' , then I recommend this. If you're interested in the game but are even slightly hesitant about it's state - wait a few months (or until release) and see how things progress. But the foundational ideas of this game are solid and the intended game play loop is there, it just needs to be worked on to make that experience the norm. Most importantly, Fun Dog has been great about engaging with their community and communicates a ton with QnA streams and monitoring of Discord/Reddit/Steam.

Space? Check.
Pirates? Check.
Zombies? YEP.
...and Bounty Hunters? Ooooooh yeah.

Got this game ages ago as I only had a macbook at the time - recently booted it back up and man is this fun. Very charming spaceship shooter game with a surprising amount of depth, difficulty, and content. You can turn your brain off and grind, mess around with different ship builds and blow stuff up!

I also really like the progression curve in this game - different star systems have different levels, so when you get new gear or unlock new ships, using them makes previous content trivial and lets you access new systems at an appropriate challenge level. Having these big jumps in power is something missing from modern games with dynamic level scaling. Getting new upgrades feel super exciting as a result!

Also, the endgame is surprisingly stout, and rewards good preparation before starting. Totally worth the money in 2024.

autism the game

makes me want to muck my pants and die

edit:
ive beaten the game solo on easy and normal now
its kindof deceptive when you figure out the optimal way to play the game
its kindof a race against time, enemies will keep scaling so you better make sure you do or else
and even on good runs you'll get your booty cheecks clapped - but that's muck, baby

couple hints for you muckers out there - villages with the right traders can win you the game
don't sleep on bows / archery

Pretty good! exactly what i'm looking for in a singleplayer fps game
kindof annoying that to play on the hardest difficulty you have to wear a vibrating butt plug but that's my only complaint about this game

Edit: completed the available campaign missions on the standard difficulty, about half way through on the next one up 'violent' - it's quite hard! The learning curve of understanding enemy attacks and the different weapon techs / combos is steep but manageable, and it feels so good when you pull it off. Learning how encounters work and planning what you're going to do is how i've been able to complete more challenging levels. When they say the harder difficulties are designed for players who are already familiar for the game, they're being very up front about it.

I really like how there's an endless wave mode that you can use to practice and just kill stuff :)

There are also secret levels that I need to work on finding!!! I wish I had gotten this game earlier and I think it's worth the price.
