Easiest 8/10 game I've rated. Maybe even a bit more.
It's exactly like Donkey Kong if Mario had a crowbar instead of a hammer and had to find some rat meat in the boxes so Luigi and Princess Peach don't lose their will to live.

So they took a little side scroll platformer and made a griping survival story with a heartfelt emotional movie vibe.
This game hits all the right spots for me.
1. Very replayable. While the outcome will roughly be the same the details will end the story with a spectrum of variety due to many variables. Makes you want to play it over and over to see how well you can manage with different survivors and conditions.
2. Intelligent story telling. It is very stingy with the amount of things it will allow you to dictate at the start. It strongly encourages you to take a random mess and overcome a harsh situation. Or not. Has a bit of Rim World, but with way more heart breaking penalties for misfortune or bad decisions. There are no do overs.
This can be frustrating to some players, but I'm the type that eats this style up.
3. Beauty. It's a very nice looking game. Very well animated. They even took the time to make someone playing a song on the guitar move their hands on the fret board and strum to the actual song. Many little authentic details everywhere help you forget these are just pixels and not people.
4. Challenging. The devs had the guts to rip yours out. They took big chances infuriating their market by enforcing permanent outcomes while at the same time encouraging you to invest in a story that can easily reach an unacceptable destination. I love games with the audacity to piss me off.
5. A very reasonably adult themed game. I was pleasantly suprised by the lack of bias social commentary. All forces are desperate and possibly dangerous. Including you. The people in your shelter depend on you to make the tough choices, while at the same time may be just as threatened emotionally by those actions which can be catastrophic. Much thought went into this dynamic.

I got this game at a vary steep discount and I have to say I feel like I ripped these devs off. Like I'm the bad guy in their story. Like I'm that ♥♥♥♥ head in the game that will gladly take all their food for a few bits of firewood they need to not freeze to death tonight, not concerned if they starve 3 days from now. Just to rub it in like the opportunist I am, I went and got the dlcs while they reeked of desperation.
This game invokes those thoughts, and why it's so very good.
Buy it.

I'm a snob when it comes to my Alien franchise stuff. I dislike most of the movies. Alien and Aliens are the only ones where I didn't get a crippling attack of the cringe at some point in them if not most the way through. Worse still is almost all of the games. This game surprised me very pleasantly. I base my rate of the game primarily on the story it told and how well it told it. I would say it failed a little bit as far as never really making anyone you pick up along the way any part of the story with the exception of one guy. Like you pick up a marine you find in a jail who has a cool voice personality, a bit of a back story and would have made for variety in your squad line up if they had just given him some lines to say when you include him in a squad. There are many such cases, but you only get the same 4 people repeating the same 8 lines. So what you get really is a fairly fleshed out and compelling story told by 2 people with 4 supporting stretched out over the whole game. Still, it is a great effort solidly done.
Game wise it is pretty damn good. There is a fat amount of game here, more than enough variety in environment, decent graphics and animations, smooth running with a level progress that makes sense. Hats off to the artist here. There wasn't any feeling of copy paste drag. The alien environments were nicely modeled and textured and it couldn't have been easy.
I encountered a few bugs that made me restart from the last save, but only the type where some action conflict caused it, so it could be avoided. No mystery crashes.
I only wish that the alien spawns weren't so generic. The warning symbols for where the spawn point are makes it seem cheap, and it would have been more hectic not knowing. I could have done without the notifications of onslaughts coming other than Harper and the motion tracker going ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Fewer aliens with less situational awareness would have been better.
The tool system wasn't really cool either. Example being that having a hacker should have exempted you from needing a key card or code you would otherwise need to find on a body or in a computer. He serves no point other than having the drone as long as you have a smartass in the squad. Either way it's gonna cost you a wrench. This is not evident the first time you play. The welder should have had X amount of charge that is depleted every time you make or cut a weld.

My only real complaint is the frequency of too few voice lines. If I hear that dude say "easy squad, stress kills you just as well as a bullet" one more time I may throw a hammer at something. I dispute that claim. Better to just say nothing rather than repeat it every time a trigger is reached. The game already borders on tedious and this only amplifies it. At first I really felt it when the sarge ask me If I felt as though you need to stay sharp for the field, but now I feel nothing. I'm dead inside. I'm not gonna look up any Latin to determine if the psyc councilor is in fact right. Amarite? Still, it's ok.

My summery is that I think the devs did everything they could with what they had and made a game that is very good.
It captures the universe and feel of Alien very well.
The voice work, score, sound and story they tell is great.
The restraint they showed by keeping it self contained is very wise.
The game play is ample without overstaying it's welcome.
It's very challenging.
It's somewhat replayable.
It grasp what makes the franchise good.
It's a good game all around and made me want to play it to the end. I give it 6.5 of 10.

WMR USERS ESPECIALLY
I bought one of the rip off Windows Mixed Reality because I didn't want to use the controllers for anything.
I didn't know this, but most portals including the native Steam VR almost require them to do anything.
I have an oddball twin stick controller that isn't being seen by them either.
For me GizmoVR is a life saver. It adds plenty of mouse and keyboard interface, and it has a hands free cursor.
It has a great desktop interface and launched all the portals needed to open the VR right from it's shortcut.
Now I dont need to open games, movies or desktop with the other portals.

Thanks a metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for this.

An overwhelming yes, but not for the reasons you think.
In its current state its little more than half of Mount and Blade Warband but with *better graphics.
Its also still in it's very lengthy early release phase, after a massive wait time from the 1st announcement.
I have to admit. Seems like a whole lot of time for a incomplete remake.
Then there is the elephant in the room. The new maps cant be randomly generated like in Bannerlord.

Then reason kicks in. There is no way that a company that brought you BannerLord is going to crank out a crap game. The production was taking so long that many started to forget about it. This is why its been in early for so long. So, to keep us happy they turned out a very playable early release. They have kept up with the community, and will follow their vision though to the end.

This isnt a review, just a calming voice to remind those tempted to lash TaleWorlds what kind of programmers they are, and what they already have given us. Give it more time and be thankful it isnt abandoned or even worse some move to micro robbery scheme.

If you want to know what the game is, there are plenty of videos that will take care of that, but in general think Total War in FPS.
That being said, I am missing the little things. Sandbox can get boring without them, and all MB BannerLord players know what I mean.

6/10 early and rising.

Lets just get a few things straight right out of the gate.
First, Their isnt a game made yet that does what this game makes look easy. That is providing an expansive future arms massive multiplayer persistent war. The others that do it like Battleground Europe arnt near as pretty.
Second. You would be amazed at the age of computers that can successfully run this game.
Third. There is no pay to win. There is skill to win. Just like in real life taking the shortcut will show in the end. The grind is enjoyable because there is something magical being 1 of 200 grunts trying to rush a base while under intense fire. Im obsessed with light infantry squad play. The amount of damage a skilled LAT can do is terrifying. Tanks flee from the very rumor of your presence.
Yes you can pay for bling and boosters, so what? How is it pay to win when there is an entire battlefield shooting at each other. Wallet warriors die just as fast to a claymore to the dome as everyone else, and its the FTP guy that will have the experience to catch you trying it and kill you. I for one actually want to spend burst money on the game, because this company EARNS IT.
Last, This is not an MMORPG. This game is calculating hundred if not thousands of players, casting projectiles and placing objects and applying the physics, real time over vast networks, and it runs almost as good as the typical 32 player BF server.
I don't have it installed, and haven't played the new update, but I'm no shill. It dont matter what money lures they install. If you can play this game for free with other players and grind what you need to rank up, then it's nothing but a win.
Im not going to get into the game description. Its simple. Its MMPFPS.
As a FTP player from back in the day, I assure you PS2 is one of the kindest games to ever be micro transaction or subscription. And it hides it's age VERY well. It remains an achievement in the industry. There are few better games ever made.
Do not listen to the never happy nerds.
Seriously 9/10

127 Hours of playing a reverse tower defense game that could be played on a phone you ask?
You bet I respond.
This is one of those "little" games that just proves my philosophy correct. Simple is better. There isn't really much to explain. Its just a really fun time sink. It has a little bit of everything. Make money, spend money on upgrades to fight bigger maps. The story is cute and simple and just there enough to give a reason to progress. No glitches, no problems, no issues. Great little sound track too.
Forever replayable rainy day game.
7/10 seem a bit high for a game this simple?
It's the simplicity that gives it that 7th score.

Artificial Extinction is an artificial game.
This is a very conditional no. I can't say it's not fun, because It kinda is. When you add it all up, though, that's all it is and barely that. Its kinda pretty. It's kinda easy to play, it's kinda easy on the ears.
This is pretty much a tutorial game for UR4E being used to drive a trash woke rant about human is bad and computers are better cause they don't have capitalism. They are relating this rant pretending to be a game with Microsoft Sam, but everything he says is scripted. You have a measly 9 levels that are challenging, but 6 of those days is introducing a new enemy and there is no changing that.
A sandbox would have been nice. A 2 player co op/? Some sort of overlay where you make choices that matter about where to land?
There is nothing. Tower defense wrapped in a rant. You get to the extra levels, and there is 1. Level 10. With "more to come". They announced AE2.
I got this game 1/2 off for 7 bucks. It was too much.
I don't mind an amateur game. I really dont. This is just straight up canned script game like product.

It has a slight arcade value, but this game would have been better as an ever increasing tower defense shoot for points 100 level no talking game. That would have replay value.
Get it for a buck or 2 if you are bored but otherwise, nah screw it there are 7000 better games for a few bucks.

Artificial Extinction 4/10

I can't believe they released it for free.

I'll keep it simple. If you like The Long Dark, you'll like this.

One complaint. They should have called it "The Long Hot *like I gave yer mom build"

Yes, you can adjust individual difficulties. Yes, they bothered to put a rich story in it, yes it's pretty damn big and dangerous, and yes it's fun. This is a well done project and there are creative minds on it. It's even replayable.
7/10 in a sea of video games.
That's pretty damn good.

This one review covers all 3 Metro games to this one. Quite simply there are few other games that get on their level. They are works of art in every respect of the word. One thing that stand out to me is the sheer magnitude of the dialog scripts that are being acted constantly. If you want to take the time out to read all the lore in your diary, listen to all the conversations, chill out a bit in between missions, this game will take a while to play, and none of it will be boring.
Then there is the world itself. While often not the greatest graphics, the massive amount of objects makes little details meaningless. These games are a bit of everything. Survival horror, story driven, stealth infiltration, open shooter. Lots of great cut scenes. Another notable effort is the ambient animations. They are absolutely everywhere. Unlike many games where inactive NPC are just idle, these are always doing or saying something. Even in Metro 2033 this was true. It's a perfect blend of utter horror, and the will to live. Not just eat and breath, but love, and care for. Another strange thing that was greatly highlighted in Exodus was the notion of mercy. You almost always have the option of not killing people. Even the monsters are often better left alone if possible. The game punishes you for a quick trigger finger.

Lastly, these games manage to be highly replayable despite being mostly tracked story drive games. This is because of that painstaking attention to detail and massive amounts of story and lore. There is always more to know and the story is well good enough to be happy to find more bits. A4 Games must work these people like galley slaves.
Well if this is what beatings produce, by all means keep beating.

Freekin 9/10. All of em.

I almost didn't get this game due to it's mixed recent reviews. I'm glad I didn't listen to them.
Granted I got it on sale, so my expectations weren't very high. I may feel different were I to plunk down 50$.
That out of the way, here goes.
Phantom Doctrine is best compared to XCOM Enemy Unknown. It almost feels like a MOD of it. This is a very good thing, because XCOM has the best format for this kind of game. I think this is where some of the negative comes in though. This game don't play like XCOM, but its so hard to break XCOM habits. This can make the game frustrating, but once you get the hang of how this game is paced then the game flowers out real nice.
1st; there are not any really timed missions. The challenge is to avoid fighting until you have the best possible position. If you can manage no fighting at all even better. It takes patients.
2nd; The world map isn't just where you get missions. It's a whole dynamic game in itself. Placing the right agents around the world is important so they can respond to local missions in time.
Other than that, XCOM players should be able to jump right in and understated what's happening. It's that close.
Let's talk about the artistic side of the game. For me this is where it really shines. You would think it would be the opposite if it were an XCOM clone. The game is thick with good voice acting, deep character personality, more than adequate graphics, fantastic soundtrack and great 80'3 aesthetic. The story is detailed, and flat full of all your favorite conspiracy theories. The investigation cork board is actually fun to work, and it's little puzzle dynamic encourages you to read all the evidence bits. Think terminals in Fallout, but with a story.
Best for last. The game itself. It's wonderful. A twisted little Gman tale. You have a cell of spooks, hunting down conspiracies, rouge agents and enemy spooks. There is a great dynamic in the game where your agents may go missing for a time. Then you have no idea if they have been turned into a double agent. Likewise you can capture agents and send them back as sleepers. Ever wanted your own MK ultra basement wonderland? It's a rhetorical question.
In summary. YES it's a very good game. The developers are really trying to create a real franchise with story driven life. It's clear cashing in is not the objective. Way too much work has gone into this game. It's challenging, even hard at normal settings. I'm an iron man mode aholic and this game has that too. Customization of characters is also there, and it part of the game as you may have to make a new ID for agents with blown cover. So you see, it just another clever thing they did to make everything you can do as part of the game, not just some dress up time drain.
The game has strong replay value.
***Controversial statesmen to follow; I prefer this to XCOM EU.
Phantom Doctrine gets a solid 7+/10
