The first Evil Within was pretty enjoyable overall, but extremely rough around the edges and a bit of a letdown considering the talent behind it.
The Evil Within 2 is a lot closer to what the first game should have been. One would think that an open world survival horror game would fail in the horror department, but I found this one to be just as disturbing and claustrophobic as the first one at times, and also like its predecessor, there are plenty of strange, mind-bending moments that made me say "what" out loud.
Gunplay has been tightened up, Sebastian is something of an actual character this time (he never really shakes the whole "gruff, troubled cop" thing, but it's more than we had in the first game I guess), the plot is more engaging, upgrading weapons and getting new skills is satisfying, and the town of Union is a joy to explore.
Basically, everything you liked about the first game is back and improved, some of the less good things were fixed or at least made less annoying, and a number of new ideas are introduced and well-executed. I didn't have especially high expectations for this one, but I had a great time playing through it. If you have any interest at all, I would suggest trying it out.

The protagonist has to:

-Navigate a desolated space cruiser that is crawling with murderous humans that have been infected by parasitic annelids, as well as fully functional security systems that see him as a threat
-Piece together what happened to said space cruiser, seeing as he's been locked in a freezer for a long time and has no memories, by listening to audio logs of the inhabitants being murdered or losing their minds/witnessing their corpses strewn all over the place
-Follow the instructions of a megalomaniacal rogue A.I who would have him killed if he weren't so useful to it and who he is dependent upon for guidance and upgrades

and, yet, he still finds time to eat potato chips and play Frogger on his GameBoy.
