It's basically "what if Dan-Ball's Powder Game was a roguelike?" and it works really well. Even better than the whole "every pixel is simulated" bit is the ability to experiment with wands/spells. Want to make a weapon that is wildly dangerous to both your enemies and yourself? Well, it just so happens that you can!... Just make sure to point the wand in the right direction, heheh.
