Feels like Halo Reach multiplayer! The portal system takes a bit to get used to, but will soon be a thing you can't go without using! Time to kill is a good length, and the guns seem balanced. Power weapons feel like power weapons, and the base guns are very good across the board. THE GRENADES ARE ONLY FOR DESTROYING ENEMY PORTALS FYI. I played about 3 hours and was shocked that I never got any kills with the grenades. Apparently if you skip the tutorial, you'll be thinking the grenades are in need of a major buff haha. Having grenades not being able to directly hurt anyone is nice since you won't have grenade spam, and it makes your skill and aim take center stage instead of having to rely on explosives (minus that rocket launcher!).

It's free, so give it a try at least!

NEW PLAYERS PLEASE READ!! =)
If you've been wanting to get back into Quake from years past like me, or are wanting a fast paced game, look no further! I've been playing for the past few months and it's been a good time coming back to Quake! I last played Quake back in the early 2000's with Quake 3. It's definitely different in a lot of ways from Quake 3, but I think it's a good change overall. This game has also improved my mechanical skill in other shooters like Overwatch, so it can surely do the same stuff for you! Each character in this game has their own abilities, and none of which are game breaking or overpowered. Some characters abilities might be slightly more offensive or defensive, and there's always a character for everyone's playstyle! ONE WARNING THOUGH...new players will notice there's a decent learning curve from a few points listed below.

1) Movement and speed is VERY important. Sure, you can just use your typical WASD movement like any other shooter, but you'll be greatly kneecapping yourself. Every character can STRAFE JUMP to pick up some major speed, or my personal favorite movement is AIR STRAFING that only Sorlag (my personal favorite), and Anarki can do. Air Strafing will also greatly improve speed just like Strafe Jumping! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU LOOK UP A QUICK YOUTUBE TUTORIAL ON THESE MOVEMENTS AND OTHER MOVEMENTS LIKE ROCKET JUMPING! It will help you out a lot and they're a lot easier than you might think =) Don't let this discourage you!

2) Major pickup items (mega armor and mega health) are very important and are on 30 second cooldowns. It's best when you pick one up to look at the time and try to come back before 30 seconds have passed to grab it again if you can. Know that getting kills is important, but controlling the map and powerups is the key to winning, or at least making it much easier haha. I always see so many players just whiz by a mega armor or health and I don't think they realize how important they are to their survival. =(

3) This is a very technically demanding game when it comes to aiming, but you'll get a hang of the weapons and how they work in no time! You have you 3 types of weapons: Tracking, Leading, and Precision
TRACKING - Lightning Gun ("LG" for short), and Machine Gun. These fire and hit instantly but require quick ajustments to constantly stay on target.
LEADING - the Nailgun, Tribolt, and the Rocket Launcer all take a leading aim and you need to account for enemy movement to be victorious! The projectiles fly slower and you need to acount for that.
PRECISION - the Railgun, and Shotgun. Both take time to cycle the next shot, so tracking is required, but you must have the crosshairs on the targer for that followup shot at least. If you can flick your mouse for each shot ok, then that's really all you need! The Shotgun is obviously a close range, high damage weapon, but the Railgun is a medium to long range hip fire or scoped sniper. I still love using it up close ;)

Look up those 2 youtube videos over Strafe Jumping and Air Strafing movements, maybe even an overview of the weapons and character abilities!

HAVE FUN! =)
