Fallout New Vegas gets a lot of love because it's better than Fallout 3. It is. Doesn't make it a good game though. The gunplay is horrible, the story is an improvement but that doesn't make it any less droning and annoying to play. It's pretty good with mods and as a power fantasy rpg like Skyrim. It isn't the masterpiece anyone says it is at all, and it crashes all the time without mods to fix it. The story is not as good as people make you believe evil. One objectively evil faction lead by a jackass, one faction lead by a billionaire, which has the exclusive saving grace of maybe having the potential to repair society. There's a mediocre republic faction that's horribly incompetent and overstretched, and one choice to side with yourself that only has the merit of being your only option when you piss off everybody else or for the power fantasy. It's a decent game without the crashes, but if you aren't willing to mod it don't buy it. The DLC are actually pretty solid in most respects though.

a good map painting simulator ruined by incompetent devs and continued bad updates, avoid in its current state.
