Incredible game. It will be an excellent experience in the long run, but its release state was fairly embarrassing considering its budget.

We bullied Sony out of using PSN, woo!

Simply an atrocious downgrade from 20XX in every conceivable way, except for the art. Physics have been downgraded, level design is terrible, game is absolutely overflowing with bugs, and nothing feels even remotely good.

A fantastic entry into the jump & shoot Genre. Controls are extremely tight, level and boss design are incredible, the soundtrack is amazing, and you can suplex robots.

While vastly improving on the core features of the original, Darkest Dungeon 2 ultimately loses itself in a labyrinthine nightmare of obtuse menus, a shortsighted and pointless driving mini-game, and rogue-like nonsense.

Purchase if you enjoyed the original, but don't expect the same experience.

Oxygen not included is one of the most interesting Colony simulators you'll come across. With a 2D-side-scrolling view with an emphasis on gravity and space, Klei's usual art style knocking it out of the park, and a plethora of interesting mechanics to play around with, this one can keep you entertained for hours on end.

This is of course, assuming you're willing to put in the hours to learn how the game wokrs.

Oxygen not included is not a user-friendly game. It is complicated beyond belief when compared to other games in the genre, and does not hold your hand at all, leaving your free to explore the endless loop of trial and error. If you're somebody who loves to learn from your mistakes, and you don't mind restarting your save file a few dozen times with a new plan in mind each and every run, you'll likely have an incredible time learning all the ins and outs of the game.

If you wholly expect that your first run should be optimised and easy to play through, this might not be the game for you.

Though the game isn't very difficult once you actually get a hang of the mechanics - quite the opposite, it becomes very easy at about 200 hours of experience - it offers so much freedom that no two saves will feel the same.

Action packed, smooth, precise, and completely free of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you'd usually expect out of a Roguelike.

This might just be a game with absolutely no flaws.

Short and sweet: The new Devs have no idea what they're doing, and have effectively ruined the game. Player retention is non-existent, and there have been absolutely no innovations to improve upon the original at all.

Most annoying of all, the balance philosophies of the dev team (and the community, at that) are ridiculously poor, their monetization is borderline predatory, and the community is - for lack of a better term - cringe.

As somebody who has played the alpha of the original game, this is a shameful attempt to revive something great by making it mediocre.

Resident evil 4 REmake is simultaneously one of the best and most confusing entries in the resident evil franchise thus far. It's saturated with a plethora of entertaining set pieces that are reminiscent of the old game, while discarding every shred of charm and personality that the original had. This confusion in identity is consistent throughout the game's facets, from its story, to its game play, to the mechanics that have been peppered throughout the game without much rational thought behind them.

There are two things that hold Resident evil 4 back; Its choice to try and ground the characters and story in realism while discarding the goofy campy tone of the original, and its baffling decision to inject frustrating mechanics into the combat.

In regards to the storytelling and acting, you'll likely find the new characters a lot more grounded, albeit quite boring. The script-writing for REmake lends more to modern habits that you might see in cinema, making for a few very good scenes that may make you forget that you're playing a Resident evil game for a few seconds before you're thrust into the absurd silliness of the Plagas infested halls of its great castle. While the casting and writing has improved, so much of the charm that had made the original entertaining has been stripped away. This decision to lean away from the silly gimmicks of the original was ultimately the correct choice, and doesn't detract from the story very much (It improves it, in fact), but as a result, there aren't any memorable moments that actually stand out any more, aside from perhaps 2 emotionally resonant scenes that feel detached from everything else in the game.

The combat of REmake is incredible, but has enough irritating details to make it a frustrating slog at times. While the gun play feels quite good, and the enemy variety is absolutely fantastic, there are small facets of combat that exist only to frustrate and artificially pad the difficulty of the game, ranging from the inane addition of hitstun RNG, and implementation of the absolute worst mechanic in the game: Parrying.

The decision to implement a parrying mechanic is the most thematically incoherent decision in REmake. The action-horror game-play loop was already quite unbelievable to begin with, but parrying acts counter-intuitively to the most significant change in how RE4 functions: The vast increase in mobility. While parrying offers some interesting options in combat, its existence feels more and more shoe-horned into the game as your progress further and further into the story.

We can't forget of course - as it is tradition in the RE franchise - the boss fights are their own can of worms entirely.

While this batch of boss battles is possibly the most well-designed in the history of Resident evil, this isn't saying much considering that up until this point, there have only been a handful of bosses that haven't been bullet-soaking obstacle courses. This time around, the bosses have very interesting patterns, and some have incredibly complex arenas for you to explore and maneuver throughout. Unfortunately, bosses are also bogged down by their access to a series of complete jank, near-unavoidable attacks, and techniques that force you to use your parry mechanic for the most optimal defense - a mechanic that is inherently limited by the game's equally baffling decision to give the knife a limited durability.

Resident Evil 4 is held back from being a phenomenal game by its focus to increase and moderate the difficulty of the game as much as possible, while stripping all of the goofy details that made the original a fantastic experience. Despite its decision to make itself less accessible than any of the other titles in the series however, it still stands as one of the best experiences in the franchise.

One step from Eden is a spectacular re-imagining of what I consider one of my absolute favourite games to this date, Megaman Battle Network. It heightens the game play to a new level of refinement, while doing away with most of the biggest issues that those games had. Unfortunately, although it takes clear inspiration from the aforementioned cult classic, One Step From Eden also pulls a little too far away from game play elements that would have made it into something even more magnificent. Despite this, it holds up as one of the best roguelike titles I've ever played.

The game features a 4x8 grid from which one must do battle by activating 'spells' from a deck that must be created from randomly provided options that the game offers as you progress. The primary game play loop is incredibly addicting, and lends well to the rogue-like archetype in one way, and one way only. Build variety. Although build variety is incredibly varied, the core game play and variations in enemy types is lacking quite severely, leaving each play through feeling practically identical to the last in a lot of respects, even with one of the most enthralling build progressions I've ever experienced.

Its appeal comes mainly from the fast-paced and technical battles, where positioning and reaction speed both play a major part in how well you'll perform. There are very few situations where you will feel utterly powerless to all of the nonsense occurring on the screen, and even when it's too overwhelming to handle, you can almost certainly adapt if you give each encounter enough practice.

The character archetypes, and wonderful sprite art both lend to this appeal even more. If you're not already enthralled by the exceptional variety with the endless customisation options, you may find yourself coming to love each of the characters and the subtle quirks that make them who they are, both aesthetically and mechanically.

As mentioned before, the enemy variety is fairly limited in contrast to how much you can customise your play through, and although there is a vague outline for the game's lore, there is hardly enough there to get players invested. This is where the game is held back. With how incredible the game play and design are, there is a gaping hole where an equally incredible series of stories could fit.

Above all else, One Step From Eden is incredibly fun, especially for anyone who enjoyed the Mega man Battle Network series.
