Janky controls and still 30 minute queues a week after launch. I played 3 hours on day 1, the rest of my times on steam has been spent in queues. My initial reaction was this is a diablo clone which someone decided there was more money to be made from portraying as an MMORPG. I have definitely played worse mmo games than this however the core difference there is that I was able to actually play those games and decide they were bad. This one has hints of bad hidden behind a login queue.

It's hard to leave a review for this game because of the value I get from it personally so I will just bullet point a few thoughts about it and just say that for me, this is the best VR experience I have had in over a year. My journey from the first ship, through basic fighter ships then to small exploration ships then to medium cargo haulers, onto passenger carriers and finally where I am now with the large size Anaconda has all been so rewarding. When you get that new ship and you check out the cockpit in VR, how the engines sound, the size of it inside the station and moving through the envelope, how it drives through space... it's all incredibly immersive in VR.

  • It's still the most immersive and overwhelming VR experience I have had in more than a year.
  • It's not friendly to new players. Nothing holds your hand or tells you what to do.
  • You will be expected to watch introduction training videos as a "tutorial" system.
  • You should have a 2nd monitor because travel times in space can be quite long once you start trying to make large amounts of cash. This is something you don't want to do in VR because I have often had 40 minute long flights from a star to the station and nothing happens, you need to keep an eye on it though incase a pirate comes for you or something.
  • You will spend a lot of time on 3rd party websites finding station details, game details, ship builder tools, route planner tools etc etc.
  • You will get blown up and lose your ship but don't worry it's insured! Everything you obtained such as cargo and bounty claims will be lost however which kinda sucks but I remind you of the name of the game.
  • You have a lot of ways to play the game, like trading, bounty hunting, exploring, transporting passengers, retrieving data from planets. (last one needs Horizons expansion.)
  • There is a shop to purchase cosmetic ship enhancements like paint jobs for a couple of quid. Reasonably priced.
  • It's a challenging game depending on how much effort you put in to it.
  • Content updates are good, I haven't touched on anything considered "end game" yet.
  • Basically any 2D gameplay I do is done to make my VR time better.
  • The galaxy is gorgeous and incredibly detailed in this game, if you like data then this game has incredible amounts. (galaxy info, sun info, planet info, asteroid ring info, station info.)

When you load the launcher, it's just white, there is no background image. It takes a while do do unnecessary file checks before you can actually launch the game. Then you have to select your region and press PLAY, then it tries to log you in. Then the launcher stops responding. Repeat this for infinity or alternatively just uninstall, forget this company whos website still seems to be stuck in 2005 when 1024x768 resolution was cool and get on with your life.

Can't comment on actual gameplay because I was unable to get to any. If this was a pysical product I would have sent it back.

To put it simply this is the best candidate for a space based PvP esports game that I am aware of at the time of writing.

I have seen this games updates since the beginning and the amount of effort being put in is great. The tutorial videos are well done and to the point which give new players the information which they need to know. The graphics are fantastic, in performance mode I get 130fps with an 8350 and GTX1060 and quality mode 60 fps. The touches with the crew system which determines the voice effects and passive bonuses I really like.

It does still need some work on the interface to be completely fine for a 4k monitor but if the idea of manouvering large combat based space craft while defending nodes is appealing to you then I do recommend you try this game. I'm writing this review after only a short amount of play time but as I have said, I have seen this game develop...I load it up now and then, and on this occassion I just spent 2 hours strait on it which is significant for me.
