I'm saying this as a legacy player who's played for a while now and I just want to give a perspective outside of the Steam group who have just joined. The community outside of Steam is generally positive about Palia. There are criticisms, and I'll be completely honest, the dev's don't seem to take criticism the best. They have taken feedback and implemented it though many times.

BUT that being said, the game feels good and polished. There's a TON to do, especially considering this is a free game. There's farming, grinding, furniture making, decorating, questing, relationships, romance, trials, bundles, achievements, weekly achievements, cake parties.

For those who want to wait for it to be "finished" I would say this - you lose nothing but a bit of your time to try the game out in its current state. If you don't like it, drop it and maybe wait. But something I don't see mentioned much is there are limited time items like twitch drops, in game rewards, and events. If you are a collector and get fomo easily, I'd highly suggest trying the game out. You don't have to play everyday, but just keep an eye out on the news of Palia and hop in when you want the limited time items.

There are two main events they are running each year and the devs have said if you missed out on the items the first time, they WILL return. So don't worry about that!

Another recommendation I would make for those who feel the social aspect is lacking - join the official Palia Discord. Go to the communities channel. Browse the community posts and see if there's a server that speaks to you. Joining a private Discord community has really changed my play experience. I've made lots of friends and we can do stuff in game together or just hop in voice chat and play our own stuff.

I'm not trying to come off as a fanboi, but it's easy to see a whole page of negative posts and think the game must suck. The game sucks for SOME people. Many of us are out there enjoying our time in it.

Happy gaming all. Cheers!

This game is grindy af and the monetization kinda sucks. But as far as the monetization, they give you ways to make some in game currency which is nice. Not like AC really. I mean you can decorate, but weeds and sticks and stuff respawns so fast in your valley that your place is never "Clean." Community is okay, not the most welcoming. That all said, I enjoy the game enough to have sunk this many hours in it obviously. If you are a sucker for in game shops, this will eat your wallet though. Some of the best items have to be bought. And if you get FOMO, this game might not be the game for you. There are a TON of items we can no longer get.

This game is beautiful and endearing. I shed a few tears during a few of the quests. It's a wonderful game. I just wish it was longer.

I took me a very... very, very long time to complete the main story quest. I'm talking off and on over a year or two. That said, the story is amazing. Don't skip through it! Honestly, now that I'm caught up in the story, I find myself not sure what to do in this game. There are lots of things to do, don't get me wrong. But the story was my favorite. I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves MMOs.

I'm someone with ADHD and this game was very difficult for me to get into in the beginning. I started and stopped this game numerous times over the years and it just couldn't hook me. One word: Mods. This game has a lovely set of bones, a wonderful base. But mods really do make this game tailored specifically for your tastes. And the modding community is so imaginative and amazing. This is a super easy game to mod.

Get through the first year. It's tough, but you can do it. Focus on sprinklers early (which means grinding the mines). The faster you can get out of watering your crops everyday, the sooner you can enjoy other aspects of this game such as fishing, adventuring, socializing, and decorating. Your farm is a canvas, and you can truly paint a beautiful picture.

This game has a special place in my heart. With mod expansions, I don't see myself getting too bored anytime soon.

It took me 47 levels to win my first crown.
I loved every level of it.

For real though, this game is great, especially to play with friends while y'all laugh your ass of in Discord. The creators do a great job taking suggestions from their Discord server and implementing them. Could the game use a few tweaks? Sure. But I have faith that this game will only get better. And in 2020, having faith in any game developer is a rare thing.

I love Bioshock, but I can not support this Remaster version. The game crashes periodically, especially on manual saves. I finally have had enough after this last crash corrupted my save. Hours gone. It's not just me. Check the reviews and the discussion board -- this is a problem that has been going on since release.

What a shame.

Disclaimer: I have beat the game.

Technical:
Steam Controller: Worked just fine. Someone has uploaded config settings.

Graphics: See screenshots. In my opinion, they are done beautifully. Some sequences feel dream-like. Great use of expressions to allow for context. I experienced no performance issues.

Dialog: None. Does not detract in any way. Game makes great use of imagery and music to facilitate context.

Bugs: I experienced none.

Pros:
Emotional Story: I felt very immersed in the story. I connected with the main characters and cared for what happened to them. There were even some moments where I was teary-eyed. I worried about how their story might end. This is an amazing feat, considering there is no dialog.

Music: Great soundtrack

Easy achievements: There is only one achievement: beat the game. This took less than an hour.

Cons:
Linear story: Personally, this was NOT a con for me. I'm only listing it here and it could possibly be for others. There is very little "gameplay." What little there is consists of making the character walk from point A to point B, occasionally grabbing items which are clearly marked.

Summery:
This is a gem to be sure. I am fond of games which are made well enough that I care for the characters. This is made by the same makers as To the Moon, which is another game that I highly recommend.

Final Rating:
10/10

This game is probably appealing to many, but it reminded me way too much of what high school romance is like (Even though they are supposed to be in college). This game left me rolling my eyes, recognising all the dramatic subtext that I probably used myself at that age. This game also left me feeling dirty as if Emily was insisting I raped or took advantage of her, when the entire game I remained aloof and as uninterested as I could be! It made me even more mad, because I felt it was SHE who was being pushy about coming out for the weekend. She was obviously on the rebound.

I don't know, maybe teens will get more appreciation from this game. Maybe even some adults.

This is just one of the most disatisfying waste of time games I've played to date. On the plus side, I got all of the achievements in 40 minutes.
