Y'know, i didn't even notice the controller bug when i first tried Dark Devotion, and even if i had i probably wouldn't have cared. The game feels absolutely awful to play.

The weapons feel clunky and awkward to use, and not in a weighty dark souls or castlevania feels, but rather in a "Why doesn't this reach, i swear it did literally every other time" kind of way. People have ALSO described this is "rogue-lite" which is an insipid claim, as every item altar spawns the same garbage every time.

ALSO, the fact that you don't spawn with your previously equipped items should be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gaming sin. The fact that the second boss has an altar right next to it, signifying that the game intends for you to challenge him repeatedly in over to beat him, and then DOESNT allow you to stay with a weapon you have gotten comfortable with, because you die to him ONCE is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Secondly, the games way too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dark. Having to give up a shield/off hand item in order to carry a torch, just to see the environments around me, is a stupid choice if i ever saw one.

All in all, can't recommend at all. If you're really hungering for some Castlevania/dark souls action, I'd honestly recommend Death's Gambit over this

After finishing deaths gambit i honestly dont know if i can recommend it, even if i want to. The game took me about 8 hours to complete, with every boss beaten but only one beaten on heroic mode (basically a rematch but harder difficulty and more mechanics)

The game has a really good art direction, nice animations, and overall the production value is top notch. Even the voice acting is very good, with a few standout low points that thankfully dont stick around for long, or which you can safely ignore.

The combat is not very complex or very hard. I say this as someone who died an average of once at most bosses, even the final one. However, it does feel nice and impactful, and it's overall satisfying even if it lacks options. There's not that many varied weapon types, and most of them end up feeling very similar, such as the longsword and greatsword feeling like almost the same weapon. This, coupled with the fact that there's very few weapon VARIANTS (There's basically only one weapon for each type) means that experimentation is often times not worth it, and the combat never really evolves once you've found a weapon you like, and from there you're mostly just pumping stat points into whichever stats you need. This unfortunately extends to character creation. There's a total of seven classes, which sounds like good variety, each with their own set of starting equipment. But get this, every single class has ONE unique trait to them, other than that they vary only by the starting equipment they're given, which can be found or bought very early on from a vendor anyway, so it hardly matters in the grand scheme of things. This more than anything ruins it for me, as there's basically NO replay value beyond trying a new playstyle, and as i already said most weapons handle very similarly. You're always going to be rolling and blocking, and then attacking. This is no Dark Souls, where an axe/shield run is wildly different from a Katana two handed run.

The story has a lot of very heavy meta-symbolism involved in the later half, but it ends up mostly being confusing and very dissatisfying. Also, the ending is, from my perspective at least, extremely obnoxious as it feels extremely depressing and it mostly just.... unremarkable.

All in all, if it goes on sale, then buy it. Play through it once, you'll probably enjoy it, can't recommend it at the current time though.

Dark souls, oh my dear Dark Souls. How little i initially cared about you. As a hardcore PC gamer im disgusted by the very idea of even holding onto a controller, let alone actually play a game with one. Even after that the horrible PC port actually turned me off Dark Souls 1 completely. But the idea of the Souls games always intrigued me. I was one of the few people who actually enjoyed some of those "I wanna be the guy" Games. In my mind they were challenging, but they were a lot about recollection and planning ahead.

But alas, i didn't play the original Dark Souls. And after the huge disappointment that was Lords of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i was kind of turned away from everything Souls-like for a decent amount of time.

But then i noticed Dark Souls 2 was on sale.

Now if you're like me you're always worried whenever you buy a game off of a sale. Cause you never really know what the hell you're getting into. But my fear was increased tenfold when i was booting up Dark Souls 2 for the first time, because i had of course experienced the nightmare that had been Dark Souls on PC. So imagine my very happy self when once i had watched the opening cutscene and got to walk around it happened without a hitch. I was able to walk briskly around like the happiest little puppy in the daycare.

That was when i was greeted by the intro.

Look From Software, i know you haven't got to stretch your cutscene muscles in Demon's souls and Dark souls, but could you maybe not have a cutscene last about 5-10 minutes only for us to make a character and have the cutscene go on for 2 more minutes?

after that i set out into the world, and quickly met my first enemy. An undead warrior wearing what looked to be leather armor. I had of course prior to playing Dark Souls 2, seen a lets play of Dark souls 1. So i knew dodging was an essential part of its combat.

Now, after i had slain my assailant i briskly moved onwards through the tunnels of Things Betwixt, fighting off more undead soldiers as i went along until i came to a hole in the road. I went into my controls to find out what the jump button was, and saw it was bound to F. So i ran forward and immediately fell down because i didn't know how to jump properly.

I then respawned and found to my dismay that my previously handsome knight had somehow caught the Plague, and had therefore turned a very disgusting shade of green. I then also saw that my max health had gone down.

Now, this is a mechanic i don't really like. Cause a lot of the bosses and the areas leading up to them are very much dependent on trying a lot of times to get the hang of their movement and attack patterns. This becomes harder when you're actively punished for your death in a manner that can stick with you for a while.

But that doesn't deter from the awesome combat system though! Every single little bit of Dark Souls seems to be built around the combat. Every single boss is combat focused, when you explore the inevitable thing thats going to be in the way of your progress is enemies that you almost always have to fight, And all of your stat building and upgrades are inevitably going to be focused on fighting enemies. It is very good then, that the combat system is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome. It has this real weight to it that encourages timing and precision. It rewards patience and punished rash decisions. A lot of times the mentality of "Just one more hit," can either land you a close victory or a humiliating defeat.

The exploration is also nice. With plenty of hidden areas to find if you're willing to stray off the beat and path.

All in all this game is great, and while i dont condone the practice of making an HD remaster of it this soon (This being the upcoming redux version From Software are planning) This game is still amazing. Buy it if you can't wait, get the hd remaster once it comes out in the other case.

Now, Lord of the fallen is a game i was initially wary about. I'd heard from youtuber Totalbiscuit that this game was horrendously optimized for PC. As it turned out he was right, i vastly exceed the recommended specs for the game (nvidia geforce 770 and 16 gigs of ram to give you an idea) But the game still had horrendous framerate, to the point that it almost froze. I ran a test with fraps to see the numbers, and it was consistently at 30 or dropped below that.

Now, the game itself is very Dark Soul reminiscent, (Both of them being bad PC ports) And handles very much alike it. You control Harkyn, the main protagonist of the game) From a 3rd person perspective. You've got several different playstyles much alike that of the Soul games. But what i found in this game was that there was no way you were ever going to enjoy the game playing your own way.

I started out as a Rogue, because ive always enjoyed sneakily shanking enemies when their backs are turned, and quickly found my arse on a plate because there had been no proper explanation of a stealth system, or if one such system even existed.

And then, right after the tutorial fight with the first Rhogar, i had my first crash.

I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pissed. I looked at the forum to see if this was a common issue, and indeed this was something that has happened to a lot of people. I then also saw that the forums were infected with the very worst part of both the PC gaming community and the Dark Souls community. So entitled wankers saying that anyone who does not own a pc powered by the souls of dead children should have no business playing PC games, and also pricks who ramble about you being a noob if you can't find this one single item burried away in a cave somewhere near a cove behind two secret walls, a fire, and a monster the size of the moon.

So i returned, my problem unsolved, when as soon as the Nvidia logo had vanished the game crashed again.

So after i'd gotten myself something to drink, and beat my head against the wall for a few minutes, I booted up the game again and it actually launched. To then find that my save file was gone.

Grumbling and determined not to let this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game beat me, i started a new file and created myself a Cleric Brawler, cause i decided that if the game was gonna be a bastard then so was i. And suddenly the game was an absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cakewalk, i died two times at the first boss and then he was trashed aswell, Despite this i did find myself cursing at ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ momentum cancelling attacks from enemies. This continued until i reached the third boss.

This was where i officially clicked quit game and deleted the damn thing from my PC. ♥♥♥♥ you Lords of the Fallen. Being hard is one thing, but be hard and fair at the same time. A boss that spawns minions that stun lock you and then proceeds to beat you senseless isnt fair, its trying to beat a wall down with your forehead.

So in short, can't recommend, maybe try Dark Souls 2 in stead.

if you are looking for a good realistic shooter that would be compelling to play with your buddies, then this is definitely NOT the game for you.

the game is atrocious, with slow walking, limited gun options, limited options in basically every way. Even though its on sale you can buy much better games for almost the same price. Only buy this if you wish to torment yourself
