As someone with thousands of hours in the game, I can no longer recommend it. I really want to enjoy the game, but I'm always left with a bitter taste in my mouth whenever I play now.

If you want to play, do not spend a single dollar. You'll regret it later. If you can get like, 3-4 DLCs for $10, it's maybe worth it, probably better to just buy yourself a Chipotle burrito so you can enjoy something.

The game is NOT free to play as it seems. It's "free to try." The amount of content you get for free admittedly seems like a lot, but when you realize how much you're missing, that's when it really sucks. The game is arguably pay-to-win now as well, with the best weapons being locked behind content that you need to purchase.

I have a few thousand hours in the game, I REALLY want to enjoy the game, but everything they are doing is ruining it for me. They want to "bring the challenge back to Destiny", which I totally agree would be great, but they decide to make all the simple content that you can (and sometimes have to) run hundreds of times irritating now. If you don't have a fireteam of semi-skilled players, it'll be painful and long. If you are doing it with two random people, chances are the activity will take over twice as long as normal, and again to reiterate, you have to do these activities... Hundreds. Of. Times.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this game to anyone. If you want to play a real looter-shooter, you would be much better of buying Borderlands when it's on sale for $10 and playing that with some friends.
