Grand Theft Auto V is the game most of us grew up on, mainly because it's almost been a decade since the release and there is no successor to the title yet.

The singleplayer part of GTA is alright, presenting the fictional world in a sarcastic and over the top way. While this style of storytelling is light and entertaining, something to laugh at after work or school, I still very much prefer the dark side of crime world they showed us in GTA IV.

The graphics are holding on very well after all these years and this title for sure was one of the leading games in terms of how beautiful it looks when it came out.

Nowadays though, this side of GTA is long forgotten and the main focus lands on the Online part of the product, and this is where my review starts.

GTAO is a grind, and its purposefully done so. Rockstar really wants you to buy their shark cards and give them even more money. Few of the examples include but are not limited to: they make an object (be it a car or a weapon) time limited, so you impulsively but it without thinking because it might be gone soon. There is even a scientific word for this kind of tactic, "Fear of Missing Out".

Secondly, they give PvP players all the tools to destroy you while you're selling drugs for example and give you little means of protecting yourself, hence making you lose money and driving you towards what? Buying their shark cards of course.

I'm not saying GTAO shouldn't be PvP at all, but Rockstar steers the player to destroy your product by highlighting it on the map and promising a payout if you destroy or steal it. In the end, the payout is something in the range of $2000, while the product itself is worth around $200k to $500k depending on the business.

There is also the toxic community but I will skip this part because even though the usual exchange between players ends in a shootout or a modder locking you in place in metal crate, you can still make some good friends and have fun.

Furthermore, there is the issue of the infamous "inflation". The prices are simply cosmic. You want a 30 year old parody of Volvo or even a Mini Cooper? You're gonna pay over a million dollars for it, and don't get me started on the sports cars. I know they're gonna be pricier but some prices are totally unjustified for the kind of car you're getting.

Overall, if you don't have at least 500 hours put into the game and if you don't know the best ways to make money, playing GTAO is gonna be really hard for you. And even if you reach a point where you don't worry about money, it isn't gonna be enjoyable anymore because of the strategy the publishers took. For example the "drip feed". Basically last time there was an update the players got HALF the content, and we've been waiting for the other half several months now with little progress. Rockstar usually drops something irrelevant every two weeks that gives 5 to 10 minutes of fun before it's boring again.

Now for the last part, there WAS a security issue that motivated me to change my review. A new RCE exploit, allowing modders to modify your account to get it banned or even corrupted. Also there was a possibility that they could even access files on your computer not related to GTA. It was extremely dangerous to play GTA Online then.

And what was Rockstar doing? They were dropping limited time cars and masks to lure even more players to enter online. They didn't even acknowledge the issue for 3 whole days. This is clearly anti-consumer behavior and I held off from playing until they decided to fix this.

To sum it up, Grand Theft Auto WAS a great game, but the management and greediness lead it to become wasted potential and straight up DANGEROUS for the players. I would advise you seek your enjoyment elsewhere.
