Fantastic game. Tons of fun to play, and it's amazing with friends.

Even more amazing is how determined publishers are to completely kill good games. 85 Billion dollars of revenue was apparently too much for Sony who are REQUIRING a PSN account to play the game now, 3 months after release.

From the announcement: "This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour"

If that's the case then what's the point of a kernel level anti-cheat too?

Until this gets walked back, it's a no from me dog. It was fun while it lasted.

Edit: PSN Account is no longer required in order to play the game. Can wholeheartedly recommend the game again. Only remaining hangup is a Kernel Level Anticheat. But great community, great devs, great game.

So I can't wholly recommend AC7.

It's not a bad game by any circumstance. Planes feel good to fly, there are plenty of enemies to shoot, and they explode spectacularly. If that's all you're going in for, and you can ignore everything else, you'll have a blast. Hell, even I go back from time to time and it scratches the itch of arcade dogfighting.

Unfortunately, it's just about everything else that just grinds on me as I play.
Now before you say "OMEGALUL caring about AC story" hear me out - I need at least a LITTLE bit to keep me involved.
More often than not it feels like I'm getting berated by the game for playing.

- I don't like, or even ever remotely care about ANY of my wingmen.
- All radio chatter/cutscenes are one of two things, depending on where you are in the story:
A) You're a filthy convict, go to solitary
or
B) OMG Plz you're the only one who can save the entire world again
and there's no in between.
- The story setting and pacing itself feels all over the place. You start by hearing about the back story of some engineer woman, then bam, you're over in the army as some new pilot, then bam you're listening to some psychologist/researcher guy, and now you're back over to the pilot and oh yeah by the way now that woman is a prisoner This all happens within the first 2 missions by the way.

Maybe AC5 just spoiled me. Maybe I'm just biased for my nostalgia. Maybe you enjoy it more than I do.

Early Access Review
So far, so good! I'm a sucker for pixel art, and this game delivers in spades.
It also fulfills that nostolgia for HoMM3 with it's own twist that keeps the game fresh and entertaining.

I have my wishlist for sure:
1) I wish combat was a bit slower, or had some sort of toggle or slider for animation speed, because first getting into it, everything seemed like it moved way too fast. This is definitely a personal preference sort of thing though, and it was something I got used to as I played
2) I would like (or maybe there is, and I'm just blind/didn't look at the controls) some way to stop my Wielder's (Think Hero) movement after it begins. As it is, if some shiny thing appears as my Wielder is walking, and I right click on the shiny, the Wielder will just fast forward to their destination.

I only played through 3 and 1/2 campaign missions so far, and I think the difficulty of such ramped up pretty appropriately. I'm definitely no expert in the genre, and just when I thought I had a good handle on how to slow roll the missions and just overwhelm the enemy, things shifted in mission 3 and I was forced to learn/adapt.
For instance: Once you create a building, you don't need the prereqs in order to *keep* the building.
Here's a more specific example. You need the Quarry in order to build the Castle and create Knights. However to upgrade the Castle, you don't need to keep the Quarry.

All in all, a solid game, would definitely recommend to fans of the HoMM series/style of game.

To start, I'll address the elephant in the room:
A lot of people have reported various FPS issues and graphical glitches that make their game almost, or totally unplayable.

Some homebrew fixes have been put out, and FromSoft has said they are working on improving things, but keep in mind that you very well might have a rough start

For my own playtime, I have not had any issues of the sort. The closest I come is some FPS drops as textures and things load in, but nothing I would call gamebreaking or immersion shattering.
The game looks fantastic
The world is massive
(it's filled to the brim with content!)
and it's just as hard as ever.

For example, here was a very short summary of 15 minutes of exploring:
I opened up a chest in some short underground ruins, that promptly began vaping on me, and teleported me into some caverns where people were mining crystal meth with some Centipede/Crayfish overseers. Outside lead to some Bloodborne swamps, where something (it was invisible) left some radioactive looking splotches and was rapidly approaching me.

I left with some soiled underwear.

> Get hooked on the Souls Series by talking to a friend
> Buy DS3
> Take 40 minutes to make a character
> Actually start the game
> Die to first crystal lizard
> Die several more times
> Reach first bonfire
> Die to hollows around the bonfire
> Reach the first boss
> Die at least 20 more times
> Kill first boss
> Realize that was the tutorial
> Cry

10/10 would spend 90 minutes on the tutorial again
