Big tiddy anime Dark Souls Lite. So many waifus, dude. Like, so many.

Order of events:
1. Create detailed lady character.
2. Play the tutorial.
3. Acquire waifu.
4. Kill.
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4.

And if "My outfit consists of a hooded cape and an unraveled roll of toilet paper" doesn't catch your fancy, maybe you'll enjoy The Russian, "No I will not tell you how I got a Dodge Charger up here", The Gun Nut, The Singer, Nameless Vampire Bait, or any of the variety of humanoid monster girls that may or may not be friendly.

OK but actually...
It's BaMCo, so Dark Souls is the easy comparison. Code Vein is, overall, easier than Dark Souls; it's by no means relaxing, but progress comes at a steady, satisfying pace.
The lore for the world is much more readily accessible; cutscenes abound and are even individually rewatchable in the "Hot Spring" area.
Character stat and ability progression is Code Vein's unique aspect. You can effectively reclass at any time between an expanding inventory of "Blood Codes." Your code dictates most major aspects of your character; health, stamina, carrying capacity, and stats like strength, dexterity are tied to your code. The downside to this is that you can only take build optimization so far (quick movement with big weapons is generally impossible).

As much as I would like to recommend this game, I just can't. The singleplayer is great, but online is a whole different animal. The grind for progression is incredibly slow and compounded by the ever more expensive new content that is released. And the content may be free, but the price tags included in game make the shark card microtransactions seem predatory.
Will you run into modders online? Almost undoubtedly.
Are they all terrible? Anecdotally, no, but the bad ones are gonna stand out a lot more than the others.
It won't take long to see the appeal of having someone mod money into your bank account. Put simply, the only time you should consider buying this game (in terms of the online experience) is if it's on sale and you have a few friends also interested. At least it's a nice driving simulator.

Incredibly solid experience, especially with friends. New content is released fairly often, and is almost always free. If you're the kind of person who enjoys trying build a collection of items, there is more than enough content for you.

Has a lot of weird Christian themes.

This is the only game I've played for like 3 days. Combat is glorious. The story is confusing and emotional. The booty is beautiful.

It's a library staple, you've gotta buy it. But yeah, it's like the trailers show, this is a sandbox where you can do whatever the ♥♥♥♥ you want.
Wanna film a music video? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ go for it.
Recreating a Greek epic? Why not.
Turning your friend inside out? There's tools for that.

Stop torturing yourself over whether or not to buy this game. Instead, start torturing yourself by getting heavily emotionally involved in a game that seeks to make you paranoid by telling you everything has consequences. Right down to watering that damn plant.

I purchased this game expecting RPG, tower defense, and top-down shooter elements. The RPG and tower defense parts were specifically shown in the trailer. However, the top-down shooter part is not shown in the trailer, in fact there is no mention of how the game is played control-wise. The control scheme for this game does not work well with the presence of characters as it works through selecting charcters and clicking on things that you want to do (ex. opening doors and killing things). I personally feel the game would benefit more from character selection wtih WASD movement, an activate key, manual attacking for the selected character and basic commands (such as guard or follow).
