I played it on battle.net when Bungie was under Activision and put a solid 500 hours into it there. It's certainly been a rollarcoaster ride and continues to be one. I can't say that i love the state of the game, but i do love playing the game. So far the best year of destiny was the year of forsaken, but the 3rd year just started so we will see how well bungie continues development on the game.

Edit: pay 60$+ each year for new mediocre content while they phase out old content that you paid 60$ for instead of making a new game. Smart money gaining model to ♥♥♥♥ players out of ♥♥♥♥ they paid money for.

Edit 2: The prices for the content for this game is still absurd, but the gunplay and general gameplay continue to be good. The culmination of updates leading to the current landscape of activities and how to play them are very fun to play, but also very expensive to get the entirety of the content currently available. As long as your pockets are big, you will have near endless fun with the general content and endgame content, but unless you are willing to invest lots of money into all of it, then wait for a sale and hope to get some if not most of the content at the price it should all be worth.
