RE-REVIEW MARCH 25 2025 (1000+ hours):

I was planning on switching my negative review to a positive review when I reached 1000 hours... and then they finally release some paltry DLC that isn't even covered by the "pass" that costs more than the base game.

Even worse is that the devs keep doubling down on their smug ban culture, banning players left and right for the dumbest reasons. Maybe that is normal culture over there in Europe, but these devs are banning players for normal conversation here in the West. It's absurd.

They just keep shooting themselves in the foot over and over again, acting like this is their pet project and if we, the players paying to play it, don't experience it in the exact way they want us to experience it, then they decide that we should not be allowed to participate. And these bans are not just in-game, but also extend to all Eugen forums on multiple social media platforms and even other Eugen games. This is how you decimate your own audience. What fools!

Overall, Days Gone is a solid game. It has a strong balance of simple gameplay, a practical levelling system that isn't over-complicated, and economy system that gives you access to everything at just the right time, and a decent story.

My favourite aspect of this game is the main characters who, despite being relatively average, actually feel relatable and realistic to a fair degree. They fit well into this world building that doesn't try to be an epic tale, but rather a more grounded take on how people may reorganize after an event that destroys society.

It's not exactly a deep story, but that probably works to its benefit. I would definitely like to see a sequel of some kind in this world, though I feel like Deacon has ended his arc as a main playable character. They would have to stick with the bike-centred gameplay, however. I would like to see them do more with dynamic faction interaction. One thing that really bothered me was how you are more or less forced to wipe out many rogue camps, without any chance at diplomacy or alternative; they justify this by calling them "marauders" or "anarchists", yet that pretty much sums up the allied camps as well (looking at you, Copeland).

I also wanted to say that I've heard some people describe this game as a "walking simulator", which is just ridiculous. There are many narrative-driven missions where you do walking around and talk with NPCs, but that is far from the bulk of this game. If that is now the definition of "walking simulator" (which it isn't), then you should avoid Metal Gear Solid games.

This game is garbage.

Got it to have a co-op experience like with The Forest. Figured this game would have improved on concepts in The Forest, since this game was in early access for years and even had a full release months ago. Turns out the opposite is true and this game is a clunky, buggy mess. It's also a broken game that is effectively unplayable, but I did not realise this until we tried to continue playing and found that the game simply did not save hours of progress (despite being the same host). Put 4 hours into it and now Steam refuses to refund it, so now I am giving this game the review that it deserves:

- This game is far from complete, and it should still be in early access. The fact that they just added co-op as a feature is an obvious red flag.
- Co-op, the only reason why I would even want to play this game, is fundamentally broken in multiple ways. Sometimes there are enemies that spawn, attacking you but your buddy can't see them (even when standing in front of them). These enemies are not part of the hallucination mechanic. I managed to kill one of these guys because he bugged out and was running into a wall, and then his corpse became visible to the other player.
- Co-op apparently has no story aspect and is purely survival, which is pointless.
- Co-op save states are broken. They are designed to follow the host's progress, but they don't. We lost hours of progress because the host's game simply didn't save it for some reason.
- There is no autosave, and the game will randomly kick you out of co-op. It has done this to me both times I played it. Even though I was not the host, it still affects my character's progress in skills and items if I was not fortunate enough to save before I was randomly kicked.
- The survival mechanics are just ridiculously restrictive, to the point where it is simply more effectively to die and respawn than to try to keep up with eating food and drinking water. It's difficult to even go and explore because you have to spend every waking moment eating and drinking. Maybe there is some leveling system here where you adapt better, but it is still so stupid. You drink out of eight full coconut bowls of water and your guy is still dehydrated, really?
- The enemy tribesmen or whatever are just stupid. They are either glitching out or completely destroying you or both. When I was playing earlier, I walked 20 feet out of camp and dropped dead and it said I died of "thrust", and buddy found that there was some tribal archer that hit me with an arrow. I'm not even sure if this enemy was visible to me or not.
- Item management is just sad. When you die, which is often, all of your weapons automatically disappear. The rest of your items are just sitting in a pile where you have to individually pick up each one (then you die a minute later from some stupid BS). In The Forest, you can carry all types of items with a limit per type of item, so you never had to deal with this nonsense.
- User interface is just horribly clunky. I use a gamepad and it should not be this bad, and there is no option for rebinding controls or anything. You want to craft an item? Well, you get to pretty much go through multiple menu options or drag one object into the crafting pile, instead of you know just pressing a dedicated "craft" button. And you also have no helpful description of what is craftable, unless you want to try to navigate and memorize the notebook.
- For some entirely frustrating reason, the game will not update the names of plants and mushrooms, and most of them say "unknown" despite already eating them. I don't care if it says "yellow mushroom" or "green mushroom", don't need its proper latin name, just a basic name to differentiate it from others.

This game has some potential, but they really need to streamline a lot of it to make it a fun experience. I get all of the added depth for survival, like dealing with parasites and wounds, but it just adds a major drag to gameplay when your character requires 5 gallons of water and 15 meals every day. Co-op needs a big overhaul to even make this playable, in my opinion.

I know I'm late to the party, but as a fan of Ace Combat I feel compelled to leave a review.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

It's a solid game.

I'm all for AC campaign, because AC has had some of the greatest story-telling in all of gaming in my opinion. This entry does not disappoint in how it ties together many characters and plots from previous games. No more of that Assault Horizon nonsense! The campaign had some silly moments (dodging spotlights in combat jets? really?), but there are some epic dogfights and the ending really ties it all together. Although I will admit, I got a little confused at what exactly was going on plot-wise when I was in the elevator, and the whole "blame Belka!" for everything was so AC5-0.

The aircraft selection is overall what you would expect for an AC game, and aircraft handle noticably different as per their design, which is great! They definitely went overboard with the Flankers though, and they should have had an Su-25 in there. I'm also a little iffy on the Su-35 classed higher than the Su-37 though, since in AC history Su-37 has always been treated as the ultimate Flanker, and Yellow team should have been flying them.

What really would have made this game better is more homage to prior characters and plot elements. Seriously, why has Yuktobania been ignored since AC5??? And my God, I was really expecting Mobius to show up later in the game... that was a real missed opportunity. I also wanted to give multiplayer a shot, but couldn't seem to find any servers.

This really is a return to form for Ace Combat, especially after COD: Ace Warfare. I really, really, REALLY want to see AC4,5,0 get remastered for Steam, over even remade outright. That would be the way to go from here.

I am a long time fan of the (older) RE games, and RE2R is a strong remake. However, it has many glaring flaws that become grossly apparent after the initial playthrough.

First of all, I don't really see this game as a remake per se, more of a "reimagining" of the original. This is good because it does seemlessly connect to the first REmake, but it also creates a lot more plotholes in the context of the series at large. Hopefully this leads to a further remake of RE3 (and if God willing, Outbreak).

Graphics are great and the gameplay is to RE what MGSV was to MGS: the new standard. Although, I wish there was a subtle dodge mechanic included, like with Revelations. Atmosphere is very well done. However, the lab is missing aspects that made the original great, and it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense (you're telling me the entire G-Virus development took place in two small rooms?). The original OST option is a much better experience, but really, it should have been included.

Enemy design is excellent, and the ability to blow zombies into pieces is what RE4 should have been in the first place before they nerfed the final design. The Ivy Zombies designed as Regenerador clones is inferior to the original design though. Mr. X is done very well.

Characters are also well done, and the plot itself I feel is presented much more coherently than in the original, more or less. Except for Chief Irons, while creepy is certainly no comparison to his original take as a ruthless psychopath resembling Gregory Peck in The Boys from Brazil. It's also somewhat shallow: for instance, Leon doesn't even know who Sherry is when he meets her at the ending, unlike in the original where he runs into Claire numerous times.

The biggest flaw in this game became apparent after the very first run: all of the four scenarios in the main campaign are essentially identical. I do not understand how Capcom could not have transitioned the very satisfying and fully complementary scenario system from the original to the remake. What exactly is the point of two different sets of A/B scenarios when they are almost identical? If they wanted something like with REmake where there is one campaign per character, and the cannon is derived from imagining a combination of both, then why not just have one campaign each for Claire and Leon? Seriously, what a disappointing muck up. What was Capcom thinking?

It is also great that the Ghost Survivor scenarios are given for free. However, these scenarios also suck. I say this because, for one, they are done in the same arcade-style as the HUNK/Tofu scenario instead of being story-driven. Secondly, these scenarios are non-cannon parallel universe plotlines, meaning they are pointless by design. Why does it need to be this way?

RE2R did managed to avoid a lot of the nonsense that has run down the RE franchise and has successfully stuck to its roots by trying to stay true to the original RE2. Unfortunately, this was a half-baked effort that missed out on some aspects that made the original RE2 a truly great game. I'm just curious if the RE2R developers actually played the original RE2, or if they just read a synopsis of how the scenario system worked.

Usually I am in the business of reading reviews instead of writing them, but today I make an exception because this game is just not a good game.

I bought both COH1 and COH2 during the Summer sale. I could not care less about multiplayer, as I am more into campaigns when it comes to RTS games. COH delivered a cohesive and fun campaign that I enjoyed, and I probably put over 40 hours into it. I particularily liked the artistic delivery and the campaign storyline, which was done in a very simplistic manner while also trying to give the gamer scenarios that were somewhat based on historical events. COH1 was also very campaign-oriented, with all of the campaigns listed straight up in the main menu. Options were easily accessible too.

When I finished COH1, I jumped right into COH2. I had assumed that this would be a better game since it was made several years later, and the campaign appeared to fixate on the Soviets that time. And we all know by now that it is very hard to screw up an RTS game with Soviets as a faction. But man, right from the main menu this game looks like hot trash. Even though I have this on the proper resolution, I can barely even read the text. Most of the crap right in the main menu has to do with promoting multiplayer (aka DLC-fest) such as Twitch streams and other unwanted crap. Even though my PC is past all of the recommended requirements, I couldn't get FPS past 50FPS even with tweaking all options to low values (made no difference if they were high or low, still wasn't getting 60FPS).

Then I tried the campaign. First mission: retaking Stalingrad. It looked familar. Why? Because I had happed to have just replayed the original Call of Duty a few days ago, and this mission was IDENTICAL to the CoD Stalingrad mission. This all really explains the purpose of COH2: to capitalize on unoriginal concepts (like with all of the Soviet paraphenalia in the main menu, treating the hammer and sickle like a brand label). The other thing that really jumped at me was the whole CGI story element; completely overdone and unnecessary compared to how COH1 handled its plot. This story element is quite intrusive, especially with the new version of the tactical maps that they force you to endure throughout a mission: instead of a useful map like in COH1, you are now forced to view some completely useless black and white photograph. What is the point? There is no point. And overall, the story just sucks. It feels like a rehash of how World in Conflict handled its plot, except that WiC was based on a fictional WW3 scenario and COH2 is supposed to be based on non-fiction WW2. So why change the direction now after COH1 nailed it beautifully? It's like watching the difference in movies between classic horror special FX and CGI greenscreen crap.

And here's the best part: I'm only on the second mission. I've spent a few hours trying to beat it, but I cannot. It should be simple enough, but the game refuses to let me finish it. I think it's a terrible mission design, especially when you have to burn some buildings down with flamethrowers (but why only some buildings? WTF is the point of this objective) with infinite waves of ♥♥♥♥♥ bumrushing you engineers. I actually finished this mission yesterday without too many problems, and then the game crashed of course. Now, I am unable to even progress through the mission because every time I am supposed to use the engineers to blow stuff up, they are already dead before I can even control them!

And I honestly don't even know if I want to continue with this BS. The game just looks and feels like crap compared to COH1. Even the text, and the in-game UI itself, just looks terrible. Everything is just so limp-♥♥♥♥♥♥ compared to how COH1 handled things. So I think I'm going to check out some mods for COH1 instead.
