I bought Kingdom Come: Deliverance less than a week ago. I have almost 40 hours in already. I have barely touched another game since. This thing has me in a chokehold.

The wildest part? I’ve known about this game for years. I had heard the name, seen it in passing, but never realized what it actually was. Then, a few days before Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was about to drop, I saw the trailers, thought, "Damn, this looks fun." And then I finally put two and two together—this was a game about the Holy Roman Empire.

Now, this was insane timing, because for the past couple of weeks, I had been spiraling down an autistic-focus rabbit hole about the HRE, desperately looking for a show or a book or something to really sink into the setting. At the same time, I was also starving for a new RPG to play while waiting for the next wave of big releases. And then, like an angel descending from the heavens with a longsword and a copy of the Codex Gigas, Kingdom Come basically dropped into my lap.

I impulse-bought it the day before KCD2 launched, just to see what the hype was about.

I was not ready.

This game is medieval GTA, and I mean that in the best way possible. You can brawl in taverns, rob people blind, piss off the nobles, outrun the guards, or just vibe in the woods hunting deer and getting lost. But unlike GTA, the world actually cares about what you do. Get caught stealing? Enjoy a lengthy stay in prison. Show up to a fancy meeting covered in blood and mud? People will look at you like the filthy peasant you are. Can’t read? Better find a monk to teach you, because your dude is literally illiterate.

The combat is brutal, the roleplaying depth is insane, and Henry—the protagonist—is just some blacksmith’s son trying (and usually failing) to survive. No chosen one nonsense, no magic powers, just pure, unforgiving medieval struggle. And somehow, it makes every small victory feel huge.

I have no idea how I slept on this for so long, but I do know this—Kingdom Come: Deliverance is my new obsession, and if you’re even remotely into RPGs, history, or just want a game that really commits to immersion, play this.
