Honestly, the game, at it's core, is absolutely great. The story is insane, the characters are well thought out, the gameplay is - again, at it's core - fun.
But it's overshadowed by the insane amount of bugs and glitches.
Characters just (visually) disappearing, enemies whom you've just pushed down a chasm to their certain death reappearing and taking insanely low damage, invisible walls you jump against, cutscenes or throws just appearing for one player while the other gets to glare at a black screen... I could probably go on for a couple more minutes. It turns the fun core gameplay into an unbearable bugfest.
Don't play this if bugs enrage you. You'll die of a heart attack.

I'm not a big fan of the 'either dislike or like' mechanic of Steam. Because I can't fully recommend the game.

First of all, I'm not good at XCOM and XCOM-alikes. And I probably won't ever be - but I still enjoy them, so I play them on the lower difficulty levels.

XCOM's main issue is the reverse difficulty curve. The beginning is extremely tough, and you *really* have to be careful what you're doing if you don't want to lose soldiers.

The further into the game you get, the easier the fights become, because your soldier's abilities and equipment add up, and even several enemies of the type of which ONE can give you a headache early on will pose no challenge whatsoever once you have thoroughly upgraded your squad.

The second 'issue' are the DLCs. I don't know whose idea it was to have both the Alien Rulers AND the Chosen appear pretty much immediately, because it increases the mentioned reverse difficulty curve tenfold.

What were they thinking?

Again, I'm not good at XCOM-style games, but even on the lowest difficulty, the Champions just annoyed me (they're not actually *that* strong, just annoying), and the Rulers deleted my team (if you don't have the right weapons to deal with them, they WILL destroy your team in the early game).

The base game is fun. I thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough without the War of the Chosen DLC (implying WITH the Rulers), and I'll get to another playthrough with the DLC soon.

I DO NOT recommend the first playthrough to be with the DLC if you - like me - don't know what you're doing. You will NOT have a good time, and that's not really the point of games, is it?

One last thing - if you can't stand cringe, DO NOT watch the cutscenes, and turn off the intermittent dialogue. Both are the very definition of that word.
