One of the best story based games I have ever played. The characters are amazing and how to world shapes around your choices feels amazing. Last game I played where I felt this amount of emotion was Cyberpunk just to give you an idea.

Honestly one of the greatest open world co-op space games out there. It wasn't until recently that I found out it had a max peak player base at 1000 which could have fooled me as this is an indie game I would see being on steam charts top 10 for at least a week. Its potential is through the roof and my friends and I have had an amazing time playing it. Unfortunately the game does not seem like it is being updated anymore which sucks because there is so much they could do with it. I hope the devs try and revisit this project at some point.

To sum it up I love all the Dark Souls games, but this is my least favorite one in the series. It is by no means a bad game and is actually really good. If you liked another game in the series or maybe even Elden Ring and want to see what we experienced years ago make sure to pick this up. This entry adds many new quality of life features from its predecessor and the weapon gameplay feels awesome. The reason it’s my least favorite is because it has the highest level of artificial difficulty scaling later in the game when you get to the DLCs as well as somehow being the jankiest game in the series.

The jank is mostly attributed to a terrible stamina system, poor hitboxes, lock-on that either doesn’t work or makes you miss the enemy half the time, and movement control. It is often times even worse than Dark Souls 1 in these departments which is pretty sad considering that game is known for its annoying shenanigans. Maybe I am just spoiled with Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring being much better with these problems but back when I played on console around release time, I still remember having a similar experience.

The difficulty feel later in the game feels super artificial. In the DLCs, instead of adding new and complex enemies and mechanics you need to overcome and learn they just throw many basic enemies who often times have scaled up damage, health, and resistances. Almost all your fights will be fighting 3-5 enemies at once. On top of this they are difficult to stagger, making it hard to deal damage without taking some yourself. This gets super obvious when they pack all these enemies in dangerous areas such as pits, small rooms where you can’t make space, and also add unreachable range enemies. They also made it so there is a huge gauntlet you have to go through to even get to some bosses making you waste time and resources that doesn’t even feel difficult it just feels tedious. Keep in mind this is only my experience with the DLCs the base game isn’t this bad in this department.

I know I pointed out a lot of negatives, but this is still a good Dark Souls entry. Scholar of the First Sin is the recommended one to buy as it has all three DLCs built in. There are only a few minor changes to item locations and the layout of enemies in this version vs the normal version but it’s not that big of a difference. You will get your money’s worth at full price, but it has gone on sale for 75% off in the past and that’s a steal.

This was a hidden gem for me. I went in expecting a casual game of collecting fish and selling them as sushi but instead I got boss fights, gun making, civilization saving, the best animations I have ever seen, cat feeding, and one the most satisfy endings of which I haven't had in many years. This was an amazing experience.

Great game. One of the only Soulslike games that really get the formula right but still does its own thing.
