This review is more on the mixed side as there are some issues with the game but there is more to say that's positive rather than negative. First of all the aesthetic is fantastic and the art is a treat. People who like Junji Ito are in for a visual treat. The soundtrack is also excellent and matches the retro feel while also contributing to the horror atmosphere. Despite being so focused on horror there's a very small amount of jumpscares that don't overstay their welcome. The horror aspect is more reflected in the body horror and writing than startling you.

The gameplay was enjoyable for me but could be very difficult to adjust to as the UI isn't the most intuitive. World of Horror isn't a very long-winded game as each game lasts anywhere from 20 to 50 minutes assuming you win. You aren't going to be grinding too many enemies or exploring every possibility in one game as wasting time will result in a game over. You are instead supposed to play the game many times over, changing different characters and enemy gods that will change how you play. The main thing that you will improve at isn't better stats but learning the outcomes of different events and gaming the system to preserve your dwindling resources. While you will unlock new characters and items from unlocking achievements that can result in different strategies the overall concept is the same.

It's something I'd recommend you at least watch a brief video or something to see if it interests you before buying as I imagine some may be more turned off by this rather than intrigued. It can also get a little repetitive as you keep playing as you learn all the events and eventually just pick whatever option will benefit you the most at this time rather than making serious decisions. The fact that many outcomes are mostly random chance influenced only by the stat that it is checking (which is not told to you at the time of picking it) making it feel unfair to some until you learn the outcomes of all options and choose accordingly. Many achievements are also RNG based as you have to rely on getting a specific string of events in one playthrough which can be infuriating as you play the game over and over and you are simultaneously unable to get what you need until pure luck finally allows you the mere opportunity to get the achievement.

There is one other large warning - while the game is in early access updates are very few and far inbetween. I strongly suspect that the developer Panstasz simply develops this in their spare time and this would be fine if they didn't becomes totally silent on the project for many months at a time. What updates that do eventually come out will add perhaps one character and mystery before months of silence again, the total content added giving you perhaps a couple of hours of enjoyment before you've seen it all. The game is essentially released and it may take a few years before the game is fully fleshed out in comparison to how it is now.

If you're still interested after reading that though, then by all means give this game a shot. You'll get about 20 hours out of it, maybe double that if you seriously try to 100% it and unlock everything. I don't regret it in spite of some of it's flaws.

Oh yeah - Mimi is best girl and any who say otherwise are my enemy.

I like the premise but the game will kill off your hunters if you quit a match or the game cuts off, which is annoying but I wouldn't mind it so much if the game didn't crash every third Hunt.
