Bad A.I.

I'd get into it more, but it will have to wait for an edit since I'm really not in the mood right now.

Enough people have said Stardew Valley is just Harvest Moon but on Steam, but I have to disagree. It's more like Rune Factory on Steam... and Rune Factory is really just Legend of Mana and Harvest Moon smooshed together in... just a really wonderful combination.
So, this is that. Why should you buy this?
You should buy it if you're a fan of the Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, or Legend of Mana series. You should buy it if those games don't get added, but you wanna play on Steam and not the consoles and handhelds those games came from.

If you look at the achievements, you won't be able to get them all in a single playthrough. Some things require certain story paths to be taken, and since I've got a few saves now, I can tell you that it does make a difference in gameplay. Replayability in a dating sim / hack-and-slash dungeon crawler / farming sim / RPG is a really nice thing to see.

If all you care about is taming slimes (go get Slime Rancher) then don't fret! You can effectively tame slimes, but it won't be easy since (you'll figure it out). The buildings to house them at your farm are kind of expensive, but if you have enough room (depending on your farm layout choice) then you can build enough slime hutches to color code them.

Though I'm still playing this, don't take my behavior as an example of what you should do.

It feels like the beginnings of what a combination of Ultima Online and Minecraft should be, but it doesn't matter if you have to play it in the realization that the people making the game don't respond to any of its customers.

If you look through the discussions for signs of the dev team, you'd be hard pressed to find any responses. They have posted a few topics, but that seems to be mostly it, from what I've seen so far. It's an MMO, but very few people play it. The world is mostly empty. I've terraformed the forest around my guild just because no one stopped me. I'm sure if there was actually someone playing, that wouldn't have been possible.

TL;DR

-unique UI but who cares cuz no walkthrough
-no community
-no dev interaction

When I saw a tag that gamers slapped on here saying "quick time events", the worst possible thing that anyone can put in any game (probably), I didn't realize that at least 85% of the entire game is quicktime events. I thought it was maybe 2% at most.
It's pretty hard to screw up melee combat, but Ryse succeeded somehow.
Succeeded in screwing up.

Don't worry though, the 15% of the game that isn't QTE is cutscenes. They're motion captured really well, which is good, because since the game is frozen more than half the time due to design, such things should be flawless, and they are.

I only have as long clocked into it as I do because I wanted the cards to drop. I minimized and muted it after 13 minutes. Obvious there isn't anything new past that.

TL;DR

It's Dragon's Lair with better graphics.

Sure the game needs a little work still (like balance issues between heroes and enemy spiders) but it's a nice combination of RPG and Strategy genres. The game starts out really difficult, but then once you get the hang of it, it's not too hard. Just keep those stonemasons happy!

I only heard about this game because I crafted a badge and got a coupon for it, and I only bought the game because it was ridiculously cheap at that point and had cards.

It feels like an old Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior (yeah I said Warrior, not Quest, I'm old and know its original name) from NES. There are a few glaring typos, but otherwise it seems okay, and I'm an hour in.

So, I'll look at a few things.

Music: Pretty good. I first bought the game because of the music in the Hyperdimension3 video.
Graphics: Good, fits the anime still images and gameplay.
Characters: Fun, for the most part. Cute, too.
Monsters: Varied, with interesting periodic in-battle evolutions
Story: Very meta

Everything positive. So, let's ignore some of it.

Characters/Monsters: Some of the monsters are sexy (flowers!) and most of the characters are, so we'll ignore all of them.
Story: Some people don't like meta (don't know why) so we'll ignore the story and the fact that game consoles are goddesses.
Music: Not everyone likes the styles, though they are appropriate for each climate, so we'll play on silent which also affects voice acting.

What are we left with? Solid gameplay that feels like the direction Final Fantasy should have gone (I liked FF1-9, X, X2, 11 (I was a mithra RDM/??? (replace ? with DRK or BLU), and enjoyed 12. 13 just plain sucked!). Rather standard leveling system, but nice random certain things I won't spoil helps you get rather varied abilities if you know what you're doing.

It might have been fun, but its ridiculously graphics heavy and really doesn't like my card, so...

Fun game, good low price. I had so much fun with it (hey I never said I was mature) that I had to buy it for a few friends just for the heck of it. Plus, the music gets better as your combo increases. Very cool.

I'm trying to be as... unbiased as possible. With a "yes/no" system for recommendations, I don't find enough faults to ♥♥♥♥ on the game. But I wouldn't actually suggest it.

Good

Equipment upgrades show themselves graphically, and they aren't minor.

Bad

A lot of monsters at different times don't count for XP and you can't get loot from them. Pay attention to this so you don't fight endless battles for no reason.

Ugly

Everyone's right, the lip synching... doesn't. So if you look at their mouths when someone talks, it won't look right at all. Ignore that and read the subtitles/captions, then you're fine.
