Lots of good thinking went into this game. The difficulty ratings seem steep enough (admittedly ive only beaten hard, on a scale of normal, hard, harder, hardest. But finishing that run took me so much more time than beating the game on normal.

The fact you can change vessels, which means your hitbox changes and different mechanics are also added depending on ship choice is absolutely brilliant. Furthermore, the deck composition changes based on the three characters you choose to have on the ship on any given run. All characters have specialization fields (movement, defense, attack) that somewhat define their role and potential card uses. This customization aspect adds another layer of depth that's suuuuper refreshing.

As someone who's played slay the spire up to Ascension 17-20 on all characters - I 10/10 recommend this game to fans of the deckbuilding roguelike genre.

EDIT:
I DIDN'T EVEN MENTION THE STORYTELLING. You get memories at the end of each successful run and each character has 3 of them, that's how you get to understand the lore of the universe of cobalt core. From what I gather from the achievements list, I believe there will be a secret/final boss once I've unlocked all of the memories. This also gives alot to work for, and by the time you get there, you should have unlocked almost everything, and therefore have access to the full depth of the deckbuilding possibilities.

There are over 200 different cards in this game, and sometimes I finish a run with a slim deck of 12 - so there is definite replayability of the wazoo. I forget how many, but there's also a crapton of different events, artifacts and the whole shebang.

11/10 PUT'ER IN THE CART ALREADY (or at the very least wishlist this one - thank me later).

Too short for full price, but absolutely worth the detour.
Get it on sale, and kill the game within 6-8 hours.
