Initially I was on the fence about this game. I loved dying light 1 a lot. I thought the mix of horror + parkour+ melee combat was refreshing and the gameplay was very well done. When I first got dying light 2 I felt a little down as the game launched in a "half-baked" state. The melee system felt like it took a step backwards and the performance/bugs were intrusive to the gameplay. Then I remembered that the same thing happened with dying light 1, and Techland fixed that with some patches + time. The EXACT same thing has happened with dying light 2. Now with reloaded edition and all the updates it has, the game is very, very good. I won't comment on story because some people like it some people don't. Its very preference based. Gameplay-wise however, almost everything is better than dying light 1. The only gripe I have is the blueprint system feels a little weird. I preferred the system in dying light 1. Levelling up blueprints feels a little worse/not as good as finding a high level blueprint in the wild.

Here's a quick breakdown of the different gameplay aspects:

Parkour: PHENOMENAL. so much creativity and player expression in how you move around. Playing in CO-OP was awesome because you get to see how your friend(s) take different routes to get to the same destination.

Melee: VERY GOOD. Feels kinda wonky if the enemies out level you a lot but once I got used to the swing animation and the moment physics it was great. Weighty weapons felt weighty, speedy weapons felt speedy. Hit registration felt good even in CO-OP

Night-time: VERY GOOD. Chases can be annoying when trying to do nighttime objectives but the actual atmosphere and tension of night time is very well executed.

Map-Design: VERY GOOD/PHENOMENAL I won't spoil the story but all areas of game felt well designed and always fun to traverse Having your actions impact the world was also very cool to see.

Story: PRETTY DECENT. Might be kinda cliche but the morally grey world presented was pretty cool imo. Had to really, think about who I help. The results of your choices may or may not be significant but at least you get to see the consequences. Game also is good in length. It can be speedrunned but for a first play through I think that defeats the purpose of an RPG.

UI/Inventory: GOOD. UI was good. Nothing major/crazy but it works. Can be hard to see other players in COOP but I have bad eyes. Having weapon dmg scale was nice if you find a weapon you like. It could be bad if the weapon you like doesn't scale (I had a police baton I liked but it was stuck at lvl 6).

TL:DR Dying Light 2 Reloaded Edition is 100% WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION. The game works, works well, and is a blast to play. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I wrote such a long review because I wanted to GIVE TECHLAND THEIR FLOWERS. THEY STUCK BY THE GAME AND PATCHED IT INTO A VERY GOOD GAME. Thank you very much to all the developers at Techland. And thank you to those that read this. Now stop reading and go buy the game!

edit: I forgot to say that BUGS STILL EXIST. Elevators are a nightmare and sometimes I fell through the world. But as with so many systems and gameplay elements. Minor hiccups can be excused. When the game first launched me and a friend got soft-locked but I experienced nothing that broke the game here. CO-OP is harder to review in that aspect because network issues are very complicated, but it was a good experience regardless of bugs.
