SNOY (sony) reversed their previous stance, thus I am reviewing the game positively.
The game is a 10/10, Sony sucks, but were made to see reason.
Buy the game, its fantastic.

Literally started a new genre of gaming.
It's had multiple copycat attempts.
Sparked 2D mobile game versions.
A decade of development love.
This is the original.

This game is probably tied for my favorite game, right alongside Skyrim.
I was essentially raised playing KSP and Skyrim.
This game teaches you math, physics, a little chemistry, and ultimately fuels a love for the stars.

Just buy it. If you need to wait for a sale, sure, do so. But buy it.

An added plus, this game has (in my opinion) the nicest and most helpful community alongside the most dedicated modding community. The modding community rivals that of Skyrim.

This is similar to Skyrim in that you can spend 500 hours playing the game vanilla, and still have more to do. Then you discover the modding potential, and realize you can turn this game into 5 different games just with mods.
Want to have a silly game where you taught small green men into the void? You got it. Want a dedicated space sim that could literally, and has actually, teach people at NASA? Done. Want to explore the stars with fusion drives? Easy. Want to make your own star trek ships and warp to new galaxies? You'll need a beefy computer, but you can do it.
This game has infinite possibilities.

I have a few hours logged through steam, but I would hazard a fairly confident guess that my real playtime is about double what steam has recorded because of modding and needing a copied game file to keep Steam from updating and ruining all the carefully selected and balanced mods.

TLDR. Small green people get yeeted into space, and you accidentally learn about the universe. 11/10 game.

I found this game while searching for a game similar to Halo Wars after realizing that Halo Wars was dead. I loved that game as a teenager, even though it had its very clear issues. I wanted a game that gave similar vibes, but didn't have all the dumb issues. I would say that this game delivers.
Now I must be clear in saying that this game is NOT halo wars, so don't mistake my words as saying its even similar. BUT, it does give me the same vibes. I can't explain why it does though; maybe its the small number of units, or the hilarious sounds the characters make, or the wide range of strategies to win. Whatever the reason, this game is very fun.
The variety of clans open to you is initially overwhelming, especially if you got the game on sale with all the DLC for the price of the normal game. Each clan feels very different and has distinct advantages and disadvantages depending on the stage of the game. Just play each clan a bit and you will find a few you love.
There are several modes to play, not just multiplayer. There is of course single player where you basically tell the game how hard you want to work, and then it delivers. There is a conquest mode (which is super fun) that allows for single player and co-op with friends. That mode is more than "kill the other dudes," You are given objectives, certain win conditions, that you must accomplish. It's very refreshing. Also the mode gives you bonuses as you progress through the conquest, and the bonuses are per-clan, and are even separate if you play co-op. There is endless replayability in Conquest.
There are creative modes with varying degrees of depth. Starting with the map editor that is the easiest to get going, moving all the way up to a built in script editor that lets you literally code events into the game.
Lastly, of course, there is multiplayer PvP. (and ranked but I know nothing about that atm)
The multiplayer is your standard "throw everybody on a map and let em' loose" sort of occasion. But it works very well, and I have had very little issues with servers, and no disconnects thus far. the PvP community in this game is generally VERY GOOD, ie. don't jump in as a novice expecting to do anything but die. This is a game with a small but dedicated playerbase, and the skill level shows. That being said, the community is very nice and helpful. (but again small) Much of the information about the game on youtube is outdated as there are frequent balance changes from the devs. This actually turns out to be a blessing in disguise, as the lack of recent information forces you to LEARN the game, not just listen to youtuberguy tell you how to play.

I recommend this game, it is a must buy if on sale. If you want an "intro" to RTS, or simply an RTS that more laid back and kindhearted, this is the game.

Lastly, in response to some of the comments saying that "all the PvP is rushing." I would be lying if I said this didn't happen, butit is really not that bad. If you get into a 1v1 PvP duel, expect a rush. Rushing in a duel is a great strategy in almost ANY RTS game. But, rushing becomes much less common in 2v2 or 3v3. Additionally, if rushes are a real problem for you, you can play a more defensive Economy clan, or change you play to better match. (hopefully both?) If you still get annoyed, play PvE or versus friends until you grasp the game well enough to rush yourself.
You can for sure "turtle" in this game in PvP, but if that's what you like, do 3v3 games and TELL YOUR TEAM that that is what you are doing. Chances are they are gonna react well. If you want to "turtle" without worry, PvE is super fun and can be as challenging as you want it to be.
Great game with friends. I look forward to playing more.

Last note on typical game times. If you rush, 30 mins is not uncommon. Turtles can stretch games past an hour, and 3v3 with turtles can push it past 2 hours, though this is very unlikely. Singleplayer/solo conquest can be saved and resumed later.
