No longer is it strictly a game where you hide your soldiers in a corner and pray....

No longer is it a game where you can pull hundreds of waves just by having a scout and Sarge busting their asses.

No longer are tanks and greyhounds permanent additions to your advances.

No more....

There's a Campaign that progressively gets more violently unfair (URBified) but not impossible.

What we have here is a game on ACTUAL tactical use of your soldiers. 6 soldiers and potential assistance from vehicles based on your luck.... Planning ahead for the map, preparing for the very real chance your soldiers will die in the next 50 feet that you take on it, spotting mechanics making actually flanking the target feasible! It's bloody exciting! It's even more fun seeing the AI actually retreat when under intense fire to reload or regroup!

Not the best game for streaming, but definitely an amazing game for passing the time when you're doing other things. URB... You mad lad, You've created a monster, And I love it!

A perfect combination of classic games:
*Hotwheels Turbo Racing (where the only weapon you had were the obstacles on the track and your boost, TOTAL control of your cars' rotation in the air using the analogue sticks),
*Mod Nation Racers (Complex, EXTREMELY detailed track editor with tons of player control per piece!)
*Forza (gorgeous graphics, an amazing photo mode and stupidly high levels of car based detail! Even going as far as to do the branding info on the bottom of each car!!)
*Gran Turismo/Need For Speed (extremely high customization available for the livery editor!)
*Burnout (NOT MARIO KART. It uses drifting and drafting opponents to charge a boost counter. Boost styles depend on your car!)
*Rocket League (air-control boost, in-game voice chat but it actually works here too!! :D)

If you love to race with some serious push behind every turn taken and each opponent passed, this is the perfect blend of skill and quick thinking. Every race has a different potential outcome, even in online. Stats are only a part of the equation here in Hotwheels Unleashed.

I absolutely LOVE this game and it has so much planned for its first year of content, some of which many of us die-hard fans of Hotwheels have been yearning to see in a game since PS2 days! This is an awesome and much anticipated game! THANK YOU MILESTONE!

Oh. My. God, the things I want to say.

Let's start with the 2 basic problems that i'm sure many of you already are painfully aware of:
1) You can't use your existing account through steam even though you need to open a wargaming launcher after launching from Steam
2) Their tutorial BARELY covers the basics (DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR LIES ABOUT BUSHES HIDING YOU. IT'S ALL ABOUT RANGE TO THE TARGET!) and, of course, cuts off several informative bits of chatter every time the guy talks more than 2 seconds.

Now... the real rant (and be ready, this'll be a long review.

WORLD OF TANKS - A game about beating the crap out of metal monsters from WW2 (and their prototypes that never saw action/left the drawing-boards).

I'm a long-standing player here within Wargaming's playerbase. been around since 2009 (ALPHA testing) and have racked up several thousand hours as a free-to-play player and stopped paying for their services back in 2012, I have also had my share of very long breaks caused by rage-fueled experience both for and against wargaming's activity "progressing the game forward" (yeah... into a brick wall) I have been one of the thousands of players who, at the start of the game's steady decline of players back in 2014, BEGGED along with many of my fellow tankers through hundreds of thousands of forum threads and chatter on their twitch streams, to try and make this game reach onto Steam to save itself from crumbling. Well? HERE IT IS! and what a total mess this has become!

Let's get into the nit&grit of this game and what it represents.

It's one heck of an RNG game, as many have stated before the shells, damage you do, spotting, use of armor etc are all using a system of Randomly Generated Numbers (RNG) to calculate what you do. So, let's do a quick and dirty example of what to expect in game:

Let's say you're in a KV-2.
* ALL tanks have 6 points on the tank that trigger a "flag" which causes you to be spotted. One on each side, the front, rear, turret mantlet (the part that lifts/lowers your gun), and the commander hatch.
*These flags allow your 2 "spotting points" (the commander hatch and driver hatch) to see a target. Within 50 meters you automatically spot a target. There's a WHOLE lot more to spotting than this but i'll leave that for you to find out through trial and error.

Let's say you spot another KV-2 (to make it even)
*You fire a shot of AP (standard) ammo.
*The game before you even release the shot goes through an RNG roll.
) The first is your shell's direction of travel (which is chosen AT RANDOM inside of your aiming circle. which means YES your shot can literally plummet straight in front of your tank right from the gun.)

Let's say your shot fires straight and hits the target. AWESOME! but hold on now...
*The second RNG roll happens. This time to decide if it pens the tank's armor. Does it match/overmatch the target? are they angled? is it spaced armor, is it a track/critical component? All of this comes into play.
)If you fail to pen, the RNG stops and your shot bounces. No problem there.

Suppose it pens though....
*The third RNG roll occurs. This time to decide what components you hit (if any)
*The fourth RNG roll occurs. This time to decide your damage (which literally can go from 0 damage critical hits TO A FULL HP AMMO RACK BY HITTING SOMEONE'S TRACK.... Yes, it's THAT out of balance.)

So already, in that one shot you experience FOUR chances to fail that shot all of them relying on the sheer luck involved with firing! lol

Now How about some other aspects of the game:
The "Random Battle" option has 3 game modes. Assault, Standard and Encounter. All three of them "supposedly" add variation to the game, but all three of them boil down to "capture the objective, or kill all enemies".
*Standard has 2 bases. (yours and theirs)
*Encounter has 1 neutral base.
*Assault is an "attack or defend" game mode.

They have had DOZENS of amazing game modes in the past as events, which they only ever use one time (sometimes up to 3 times) but have since never used them.... some of these game modes include races with light tanks, historic battles with shermans vs Tigers (8 shermans/hellcats/sluggers/wolverines vs 4 tigers for example), soccer modes, demolition derbies and capture the flag... ALL of these modes they removed because they were "unpopular"... well that's because they split up the player base *into separate instances* instead of adding these game modes into the random-battle mode. This made the player-pool smaller and in turn made it 'look less popular' even though they were greatly enjoyed (or even missed because of how you had to get to them!)

Map rotation is also a bit of a pot-luck shot. a lot of the time the maps rotate between only 4 of the 20+ maps... Himmelsdorf, Malinovka, Prokhorovka and Redshire are the 4 I commonly see for example.

However we used to have many more maps, most of them have been removed due to "player disapproval" even though the majority of players had no problem with them (though many of us DO have a problem with 'campinovka' / Malinovka and it still exists. Imagine that...)

What about the tanks?
Well.... there are MANY positives but they almost all end up being completely shadowed because of 2 words.
*Special. Ammo.*
What this "special ammo" does is increase your damage potential by boosting your armor penetration. *sometimes by as much as 80mm of armor*, which you may not think is much, but it CAN AND DOES negate a *lot* of tanks' key gaming aspect, which is their ability to angle their armor. You buy that super cool heavy tank because you love the huge gun and juggernaut armor? GREAT! Well get ready to be blown to smithereens because a *light tank* firing "special ammo" is able to penetrate your FRONTAL PLATE ARMOR EVEN WHEN ANGLED for 200+ damage per shot and reload 4 times faster than your big gun. AND that little light tank *can and will survive the shot you fire 90% of the time! EVEN IF YOU USE SPECIAL AMMO TOO (since it only increases penetration potential. not damage output.

This ammo has no drawbacks. You do not give up damage for penetration. You don't give up shell velocity for damage, you don't give up critical chance for damage or vice versa. it's a flat improvement on all accounts and you're effectively *paying an increase of sometimes 700% the cost of the standard ammunition for a single-use shot that basically ensures you hurt the opponent. Something many players argue is a "pay to win" mechanic, even if the in-game currency is what is used. Because you can not support such expenditure on ammo *unless you're on a premium account* which costs actual currency, OR do insanely well in a match and not die, which is easier said than done these days.

This might change as the playercount increases and the player-pool recovers to something manageable... and this is something MANY of us older players are hoping for. A return to the impressiveness that this game was prior to 2015. To see the playerbase stabilize and the game improve as a whole and not just for a handful of super-players who simply "seal club" (drop to tier 1-5 with said premium ammo) to make their stats look good.

"Okay but what about the events currently, since you said a little about how great they were in the past" you might ask.
They're crap. Money pits mostly. Loot crate in origin at worst (seasonal "boxes") and downright bidding for tanks they promised would never be sold again to the public due to balance issues (black-market events). Frontline is a fun event but again, they have this event locked behind a "prime time" period, where most players are at WORK OR SCHOOL *and* it is a separate game instance, meaning it's NOT a random event in the battle button.\

Edit: AND NOW THEY HAVE ADDED WORLD OF TANKS PLUS which outright makes paying players BETTER by upwards of 40% via crew skills combined with bond equipment.

AVOID THIS GREEDY DEVELOPMENT TEAM.

Great game, and I'm really excited to see just how far they take it. I haven't had time to delve too deep into it but with the few missions i've done I have found myself immersed in the relaxing lack of atmosphere and very fitting music. The occasional shudder of the camera as massive ships overhead slowly thunder across the high-altitude cutter-fields and immense amount of freedom on how you tear a vessel apart right down to the last bar of nanocarbon. The fear of chopping a fuel line unintentionally, COMPARTMENT DECOMPRESSION (something I haven't seen since Deadspace 2!), power reactors that actually go critical, engines that can go into over-drive and send your scrap-ship rocketing forward or exploding unexpectedly, and even small bits of exquisite details like emergency running lights and warning lights inside powerless ships! It's awesome!

Game has multiple ways to play too for any occasion. personally I like having no timer...

Standard campaign runs fuel, oxygen and a 15 minute "shift" which forces you to 'clock out' every 15 minutes, it's a fine balance between breaking down a ship in a timely manner and steadily chipping away at your debt. If the wreck no longer holds a profit enough to break down after 15 minutes you forfeit what's left and move on.

You also have the option of a campaign without the 15 minutes but still run the oxygen and fuel limits, which lets you scrap away so long as you keep yourself topped off. Great for people like me who enjoy scrapping right down to the last piece for the nice rush of dopamine you get for seeing an empty ship bay.

Sandbox is effectively the mode without oxygen, fuel or a 15 minute timer. You pick up a ship and break it down as you deem fit. Good for seeing how something could catastrophically fail too, and for a few jaw-dropping or "i wonder if this'll work" mad-cutter moments.

You also have the hard-core cutter mode which you only get one life. Though I would highly advise against this for your first run.

All in all, I definitely plan to play this more in the future once I've got time, but right now i'm more focused on reality due to a few situations not in my control. I hope to get back into this in the future!

The game has gone through so many iterations and it's still being adapted. It's a VERY well balanced survival vs zombie apoc. game. I'm not a fan of the console version due to the less than intuitive controls in inventory management, but if I had to choose a game to be stuck playing with for months on end, this would be way up there on my choices.

Weather plays a key part in survival, making clothing choices important, leveling up isn't obscenely overpowering unless you change the game's skill point receiving system (you only normally get 1 point per level up.), it has a game stage system that makes attacking hordes tougher based on the player and proximity of other players. Horde night is based on player rather than random (huge change from its old style.) and there are new enemies, prefabricated looting zones and "boss buildings" (challenge rooms with large reward and dangerous hordes littering its internals.) and plenty more to work with. Absolutely love this game.

edit 2024: still better with friends.

This and Gears of War were the only reason I EVER contemplated the idea of getting an Xbox. Now with this on Steam? No more desire for Xbox. Great game, feels just like how i remember from the 360 with my uncle on split-screen. Great series. and 343/Bungie's greatest achievement. I would also highly suggest reading the books! Great backstory and ties the various games together pretty nicely.

Heavily communication oriented, great game and terrifying when a vehicle rolls up on your position.

I actually ran with a squad of 10 other individuals, we had crept into enemy lines and were taking up position in a few bushes near their M4 shermans. We were losing our minds for a few minutes as our squad leader went "GET DOWN YOU IDIOTS" over the comms in a whisper, when we noticed a Panther moving through the forest with a platoon of 6 soldiers behind it. It passed by all 11 of us, and then one of our guys was stupid... he sneezed over comms. At that moment the platoon stopped, fanned out and the panther turned its turret.

10/10 would die to pollen again.

The game feels very solid, even as an early access! I love that especially upon jumping into the game. It only hiccuped on me once during a loading screen (1060 GTX + 32GB ram on an I7-8700K processor/Z390-H ROG Strix motherboard.), although there definitely is some small bugs still apparent. Voices not playing, occasional freezing in the dialogue needing you to press enter, rapidly skimming through messages and such if you press enter once. It's small things that come to mind here though! I haven't had any sound 'crackles' or sluggish runtimes during the gameplay though but i also haven't done alot of traveling. i went right into mission work.

Tutorial mission felt pretty good, a little odd making it around the trainyard area though and took some wandering to get my bearings. Voices feel a little dull, but this isn't going to ruin the game for me.

Gun-play is a little sluggish but handles naturally and enemies are accurate at closer ranges, weapons however feel a little odd, as headshots take 2-3 shots on human targets without helmets, leaving a bit of a question there on how that works :P

I didn't play alot, but, the time i did play i can say this:

*Dolls are terrifying
*Guns feel good
*Sounds are amazing
*Geiger counter is a life saver
*Building/crafting feels great, a little time consuming getting used to it all but after that? really easy to understand.
Green-eyed freaks like to do jumpscares.... and they do it well.

Overall? I'll have to play this when i have more free time. the game is great so far though! I'll update this as i play more of it.

Kazuya has always been a pain, even back in the original Tekken games (specifically Tekken 2) but here!? He's downright HARD. Invinicible armor until he uses his rage, lasers, AND flight!? jeezus christ man!

10/10 would waste 4 hours trying to kill kazuya again (and most likely will)
