Many a late night I played this game a decade ago. Will still recommend even now.

Probably needed one more year to bake to iron out all the features before launch. But the game is a nice take on the niche historic turn based 4X genre. Personally, I like the concept of changing cultures every era and I feel like the game is a lot, and I mean a lot more fun playing with friends than with AI. Hopefully the modding scene improves the game, but I feel like this game needs a positive review to counteract the ill informed reviews. And undoubtedly, knowing Amplitude's track record, they will continue to update the game and provide meaningful DLC.

For a AA game, it has Dragon Age: Origins vibes. For a small team it has a decent storyline, the gameplay is fast and rewarding, and the lore is extremely interesting. The lore isn't dumped on you, you have gather all the information through side quests and the main story line. The cons is that the facial animations are a bit lacklustre, there isn't that many monster variety and the assets were re-used to a noticeable amount.

However, for a AA developer studio with not even 20 people in the team, this is an amazing result, and I would love to see what Spyder comes out with next. Hopefully this is the game that puts them on the radar like Witcher 1 is to CD Projekt Red.

Why would a person need to buy this DLC you ask? You could argue that it is just filler contect i.e. fluff that won't dramatically alter gameplay experience, so you don't need to shell out the dough, right? Yet there is so much more to that. I would encourage people to purchase this DLC just for the sole excuse of supporting Amplitude. That's it. I will purchase any DLC to support a developer who absolutely deserves it. They are listening to their fan base and community, addressing concerns and are able to keep us entertained with exemplary artistry and authorship. Not to mention, they're not asking to bankrupt you, it's quite a reasonable price. But the DLC isn't necessary for the game, it's just necessary for us to show our support.
